Thumbs up Tips for pinning when sewing/quilting

I have been quilting and making skinny jeans out of regular ones an awful lot lately and while working on a quilt for my 80 yr old mom out of material she started saving over 40 years ago, I kept stabbing myself over and over again on those darn pins!!! The air would go BLUE quite regularly and it just wasn't the Karma I wanted to send into my work.
I was sewing lines and didn't want to use a pencil on the fabric so I used tape. I then realized that if I taped over the pointy ends of the pins in the fabric, it not only would keep them stable and in place, but I no longer PINNED myself!
I am so happy now and the air is clear. I wish I had thought of this before.

DO you use a quilting frame or a hand held quilting frame?

Awesome idea.

How do you make skinny jeans out of regular jeans?

Cat, I was actually just quilting on the sewing machine, free from frames, but it does work on hand quilting too with a hand held frame. I just get so sore after being pinned!

Bluebird, you get them to put on the jeans inside out. Then you pin them to tight fitting starting fairly high on the thigh and going right to the ankle. If you do it this way you will follow the curves of their leg and they will fit beautifully! These teens were soooo happy to have 'new' skinnies!
