Scrapy Snowman

I made this little snowman with things I had around the house. The wooden bead might be the only thing you have to buy.

Materials:

6 1/4 " circle of Denim (cut from old jeans)
1 1/2" Wooden bead
5 1/2" x 2 1/2" felt (any color)
Small piece of red felt
Scrap fabric
small buttons
fiberfill
long grain white rice (about 1/3 cup)
White paint
Pink paint
Black permanent marker--fine tip
orange marker
heavey duty thread
needle
8" embroidery floss
Scissors
Hot Glue or craft glue

Paint the wooden bead with the white paint. It will probably take two coats to cover well.

With heavy duty thread do a running stitch about a 1/4" from the edge of the circle of denim. Gently gather the thread so the circle begins to close (much like making a yo-yo).

When you get the circle about closed, but not quite fill the pocket created about 2/3 full of rice. Finish stuffing the denim circle with fiberfill. Pull the opening closed and using the thread sewing the opening shut. You should have a nice little denim ball. the rice on the bottom will help your snowman sit.

Take the dry wooden bead and with hot glue glue it to the denim ball where you have sewn it shut.

Take the 5 1/2" x 2 1/2" rectangle of felt and with the long side turn about a scant 1/4" up and glue carfully creating a cuff on the hat. Put it around the wooden bead to create a hat. Using hot glue glue the overlap in the back. Position the hat and tack in place under the hat with hot glue.
Using the embroidery floss, tie it around the felt above the wooden ball. Wrap it around again and tie tighly with a double knot.
Taking a scissors cut slits about 1/2"-3/4" deep and about 1/4" apart along the top of the felt above the thread. This is the pom of the hat. You may need to trim the length of pom when you are all done---it's up to you.

Using a long rectangle of scrape fabric tie a scarf aound the neck of your snowman. You may use glue to position the scarf and hold it in place. Pull some threads from the ends of the fabric creating fringe for your scarf.

Glue some small buttons on the front of your snowman.

Using the scrape fabric, cut a small square to make a patch. you can remove threads from all four sides to make a ragged look if you want. Cut a very tiny heart from the red felt and glue it in the center of the patch attach to snowman on the side.

Using the black marker create your snowman's face. Make eyes and a mouth. Use the orange marker for a nose. If desired place two dots of pink pant with the end of a paint brush for cheeks.

That would work too, Minny. Good idea!
I however didn't happen to have that available when I made this and I was trying to make something with what I had on hand.

Candy--Hankies sound really cute and another one of those things you already have on hand.

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments. I used this craft for our Adult craft day at the Library last month.
