Acrylic sealers

What do you painters prefer for acrylic sealers? The brush on kind that comes in little paint bottles or the aerosol spray sealers?

I agree

I prefer a good coat of poly-urethane. Brush on. More control over how it goes on and no spots get missed or too shiny in one area. Plus, poly is cheaper to get at home depot than the craft store stuff. Poly is hard to clean out of craft brushes though. Either use a small regular brush of a cheap brush you can throw our when done.

Good points! I've been using the spray, haven't had any trouble with it being uneven at all. But wondered if brush on would be better. I prefer matte for many of my projects since they are mostly country primitive. What would you guys recommend for a good matte brush on?

acrylic sealers

hello to everyone.

i tried sprays in the past-they always seemed to flake off.

now i use Liquitex-acrylic gloss medium & varnish.

it is kinda $$$- but if you purchase it at Michael's-use a 40-50% off coupon on it.

Joann's might have it too. they have a 40% off coupon.

if i was going to do large numbers of 1 item or a large item- i would probably go to walmart paint dept. and buy equivalent in larger size. or try home depot, lowe's, etc.

hope this helps.

acrlic sealers

For the most part, I use the Liquitex acrylic sealers in the bottle. They brush on milky and dries clear with no yellowing. These sealers come in a variety of finishes (matte to glossy). The dry time is also quick all resulting in a shorter waiting period between coats. As with all sealers, multiply coats are necessary for projects that will be subjected to a high amount of traffic or wear. Liquitex sealers are more durable than most of the others that I have tried. The one product that was more durable developed an amber hue over time resulting in discoloration of the project. I particularly like Liquitex's flexible acrylic sealer. It holds up very well on a variety of flexible canvas projects. I have used Liquitex on everything from paper mache to canvas to wood (all brush on) with excellent results.

Question Acrillic Sealers

I have a tendancy to use whatever is best for the job. I use a brush for small projects or flat ones and then I use the spray for large or irregularly shaped objects. Being disabled that is the easiest way for me to do things.

Hi!

I've never used the spray-on, I have always used the brush-on for better controll and with bigger projects, I just use a bigger brush!

Got a big project in the works Amanda?
