Inexpensive Touches for Kids' Room Decor

When you decorate your kids' rooms, it seems like all those little touches really add up.

I like the cute decorated switchplates, but they are so pricey, and often my kids' ideas for their rooms change frequently.

So I stopped getting the custom switchplates and just got the plain white "builders' grade" plates. My kids use stickers to decorate the switchplates in any theme they want. When the stickers get messy or the kids want a new switchplate, it only costs a few cents to replace it. Plus, they get to make it themselves!

I've done this using wallpaper cut-outs. I've also decoupaged cut out pictures on some.

I sprayed a clear coat finish on them afterwards.

At the dollar stores you can buy a big bag of pompoms in assorted colors. Get a glue gun or bottle of fabric glue and glue the pompoms to shades, frames, lampshads, valances and anything else you can think of.----If your throw pillows are old in the bedroom let your daughter hot glue silk flowers (also sold at the dollar store) to the throw pillows. Boys can glue different patches to their pillow......They can also decorate white sheets and pillow cases with acrylic paints....
