Hee hee Cinnaman / Applesauce Ornament Recipe

This is a GREAT project to do with kids when they are bored. AND even better, it is a GREAT CRAFT for you to do when you want to relax!

This is a recipe that can be used year-round for cinnamon/apple scented closet freshners, cars, campers, etc.

THE RECIPE:
1 cup Cinnamon (cheap from the bulk bin or
from the dollar store).
1 cup NON-SWEETENED Applesauce
1 cup (extra as wanted) Super Tacky Craft
Glue

Mix Cinnaman and Applesauce thoroughly, stir in glue to make dough-like material, if you'd like it stiffer, add more glue.

On waxed papered counter/table-top roll out dough-like mixture to approximately 1/2 inch in thickness (after one batch, you can determine how thin or thick you would like it).

Use Gingerbread Men Cookie Cutters to cut out shapes, and any others you would like on you tree or make small ones (stars) to add to packages as part of the bow and label.

Remove each VERY carefully to a cookie sheet.
Using a toothpick, make a hole/holes for where you would like your ornament to hang from when it is on your tree/gift. Make it larger than it will be when finished as the hole shrinks as the dough dries.

Place in slow oven (200-250F) and check to see when done (the bottom of the large ornaments will be dry. You can remove the smaller ornaments when they are dry, if they dry previous to the large ones.

The drying time is dependent upon the thickness of the dough.

Once these "Cinnamon Apple Cookie Ornaments" are out of the oven, you may decorate them with rickrack, paint or whatever to make them Gingerbread Men (to make great RAISIN EYES use black fabric paint in squeeze bottle, squiggle out raisins).

You do not need to clear coat them with glaze or clear paint as that would "lock-in" the scent--too good to do that!

I just wanted to add a caution: these ornaments are NOT edible!

I still have some of these ornaments that I made from over 9 yrs. ago! Each year I hang them on the tree and then pack them back up in sealed plastic bags. I made mine with just cinnamon and applesauce and air dried them on old screens.

I've been thinking of making more of these with my kids this year.

If you end up with any broken pieces, don't throw them away, add them to pieces of dried fruits and nuts and colorful unscented potpourri in a pretty dish. Their scent makes everything smell so good! ***Repeating what Barbszy said, please keep this out of reach of small children.
