My kids and I love to color together. We like to have contests to see who can be the most creative.
They make pictures to hang in their rooms by gluing the colored picture to a piece of colored construction paper, then they add texture to the pics to create a 3-D look. My daughter loves adding glitter to her pictures--ex: my DD loves to color Strawberry Shortcake. She paints glue onto Strawberry Shortcake's hat, then shakes red glitter onto it.
She glues wiggly eyes onto some faces, adds feathers to some of their hats or clothing. We have even cut out felt belts, shoes......anything to create texture. Just be careful to not add too many extras to the paper because it will end up being too heavy to hang up. (learned from past experiments. lol!)
My son loves to use colored pencils or markers. To add texture to a picture of a baseball player at bat and the pitcher throwing to him, he colored the picture, then painted the baseball mound and batting area with glue, then sprinkled regular table salt over those areas. After it dryed, he lightly colored over it with a marker. He added white yarn around the baseball. Just these little touches brings the pictures to life.
They are turning into very artistic kids!
