I am trying to learn to quilt, got some books, cut the material and everything I need to put the border on and then I need help on binding the quilt front to back.
I would like to learn, we have a neighbor that is 87 years old and she has told me she would help, but, hate to bother her. Her eyesight is really bad and it's hard for her to move around. We just go over to give her some company.

I have been a quilter for years but haven't had much chance lately to do it.
My suggestion to learn would be check to see if a school nearby offers an adult ed class, or a quilt/fabric store or even sometimes ladies church groups still do it. You might check to see if there is a quilt guild nearby & they can direct you to some classes. Some groups have mini-lessons at meetings or have smaller satelite groups.
Quilt binding is a bit tricky since it is usually cut on the bias and the corners should be mitered. I like Fons & Porter & Mimi Dietrich books for good info. If you can't find someone to help you, their books are good resources.

I see it's been awhile since anyone has posted here and since I have just joined I thought I would ask if any of you quilters are still here. I have quilted over 30 years, I always have a quilt in progress. At the moment I am working on a nursery quilt, using 'cheat' cloth this time and now it's time to put on the binding. I have a few others waiting to be bound. My favorite quit to make is a 'scrapy'. Would love to hear from other quilters.
I am still interested in learning to quilt. I've thought about buying a book or two to get started but haven't gotten around to it.
ARquilter, since you are an experienced quilter, where is a good place to start learning?

This is one of the best sites for learning how
to quilt. The best advice I could give you is to start simple, maybe a nine patch, that is 3 across and 3 down. You could even hand stitch it together, start out with a lap robe or nursery size quilt. I still do the simple quilts as I like to make many instead of spending months or years making one quilt.
Welcome, Martha! I am hoping that I will soon have some time to quilt again. I have been quilting for years but have had little time the last few with teaching. I enjoy both piecing & applique. My current project is a grandmother's flower garden using the plastic pop shapes that was on an old Simply Quilts show. That is finally a quilt for us.
I am also hoping to make an I spy quilt for my dgd & one for my niece for Christmas.

I tried making a flower garden when I first started, when I set it together the sides were so out of whack that I just gave up on it, lol. I like blocks that are made by adding strips, like the log cabin and rail fence. I have made a couple of crazy quilts and some appliques. For a time I would do some embroidered blocks, I guess I just like most of it.
Good to meet another quilter!
