Cake Candles

Just wanted to share a couple of photos of my new candle cake project.

This one is sugar cookie scented and topped with strawberry scent.

OSI~~~Love the cake candle good idea.

Read where they had a recall on about 727,000 candles because the gel used in them can catch fire and create a dangerously high flame. Customers were urged to stop using the candles and contact Natures Finest Candles to apply for a refund.

Wow! That is scary and very bad for that companies business. Mine are made from plain old paraffin wax. I've never done the gel candles, they are pretty what you can do with them but just never have had a interest in them. I do strictly soy and paraffin, mainly soy.

The fires have to do with the flash point of the candle(the point when it will ignite into flame). While it is true gel candles have a lower flash point and will ignite sooner than say soy candles there are other variables that influance the flash point of all candles. One important one is scent, because it is oil based it can increase the flash point of a candle greatly! While we all love to add extra scent because the amount called for never seems to be strong enough it can cause fires. That is why it is better to by a more costly scent that is higher concentrate per dram of oil than a weaker cheaper scent with less sent per dram. I found this very distubing as they don't tell people that adding extra scent has got to be done with limits. There is a formula which I can't figure but a site called Candlewics has a lot of info as well as some other candle sites. Sorry to raddle on but if this info can help some one then i feel better.

Good morning!
Anna, that looks just like a real cake. Really pretty!
Not a lot going on here today. We are just doing school and pretty much staying home and out of the stores until I go grocery shopping on Friday. I guess since we do homeschool, we usually do tend to stay home and stick to our routine. We really enjoy it, though. Well, take care and I hope everyone has a great day today!

That is a very good point, safety and reading the rules on candle making is crucial. Ours is 1 oz. (weight) to a 1 lb. ratio. And of course I never sell a candle without trying them out first as we will be doing with this candle tonight. Not this one but another I made Coffee Cake (scented with coffee fragrance).

Anna, These are great!! Nice work!!

These look really big....are they as big as a full size plate or is the picture making the size look different?

What a wonderful gift. Do you make smaller ones too?

The coffee cake sounds yummy!

Im a candle freak. I've recently started using candle tarts in a bowl on a warmer tray instead of wick candles because I can keep it out of reach easier with my DD running around.
I found some great tarts at Ben Franklin for $1.00 for 2 big rectangles. They have lasted forever. On the other hand, my favorite store, Yankee Candle, has disappointed me with the tarts that I just bought. I bought one out of their new wine collection and the smell didnt seem to be strong at all and it evaporated so fast.

Do you sell tarts too?

Tami

The candle cake weights 4 lbs. 6 1/2 ounces and has 4 wicks. I used 2 cake pans for this so yes, it is very big. We had to drill the holes in it because it's a little over 3 inches tall (for the wicks).

Yes, I do make candle tarts. I posted them somewhere in the craft photos, will try to repost since I can't find them on there too many entries.
