I just made something new that I thought I would share.
I bought a plastic candy mold at a Cake Craft Shop, it's round doubloon (sp?) shapes with a shamrock in it. I used a votive candle wax ( you could also use paraffin wax). I used green candle wax coloring crystals (can also use blocks) and added Irish Creme fragrance oil for candles. I melted my wax, added the coloring, fragrance and poured into the molds. It took about 20 minutes to set up and they popped right out.
I will put these into little candy bags and tie with a green foil twisty tie. I sell my crafts at a mall but these would also be a good seller for school craft sales or as gifts. Oh I forgot to mention these are candle tarts, lol! You put them in a coffee cup and melt on a coffee mug warmer as a air freshener. We use these at work all the time.
My next project will be candle bouquets. I will buy those lollipop molds and the sticks, melt wax and added pastel colors to separate batches and put them in a coffee cup with a styrofoam insert. Pretty presentation and they can be broke up and used in the same way as the shamrock candle tarts.

They did turn out beautiful. I did a really light baby blue scented it with Blackberry. Tonight will do pink ones scented with Amanda's favorite scent Strawberries and Champagne, YUM! Will do light yellow ones scented with Lemon Peel and possibly light green scented with Fresh Cut Grass. I was able to fit 12 lollipops in one stoneware cup. The only challenge I've found is finding the right size styrofoam insert, my cake place had dozens but I didn't have my cup with me so will take that in next weekend to get a better fit.

Not sure where to post this, but do you use wax in blocks (which I remember from when I was a kid) or granulated wax? I am trying to get dd started on candles b/c I remember how much fun they were and we have a couple of markets where she could possibly sell them! I can get granules easily, but am having trouble finding blocks. If granules, how much would 1 kg make? Say making a candle in the base of a 1 litre carton?

I use all different kinds of waxes, mostly soy container wax called Natures Wax C3, also Natures wax V1 both are shredded type soy waxes... the V1 is harder and what I use to make form candles. Unfortunately I'm not really up on metric measurements but if you can convert I use for container candles 1 lb. wax to 1 16 oz. jar. doing form candles it's pretty much guess work, leftovers you can just save and use another time or use for pinecone firestarters.

There are fragrance suppliers all over the country but the easiest way starting out is to buy them at Joann's, Michaels or Hobby Lobby. And of course being frugally minded be sure to look in your Sunday paper for a coupon as they are a little high priced without it... that's how I started out is with the local craft stores.

Thanks!! I'm going to Michaels over the weekend (with coupons, of course!! ). I'll check them out then.
Did you ever melt the candy molds with the hot wax or does the wax not get hot enough to melt the molds? I know that chocolate doesn't get that hot and that's why the molds work but I would think that wax gets a lot hotter.
