thanksgiving kids craft

Horn of Plenty
For a centerpiece, fill this cornucopia to overflowing with the season's fruits and vegetables. Cut out a half circle from lightweight cardboard. Fold into a cone and tape to hold. Wrap the cone inside and out with aluminum foil. Scrunch up some foil and attach it to the tip of the cone with tape so it's shaped like a cornucopia. Then mix up a batch of salt clay (add 1 cup salt to 3 1/2 cups flour, then slowly pour in about 1 1/2 cups water until the mix is doughy). Knead it until smooth; roll and pat to 1/4-inch thickness. Help your child use a plastic knife to cut clay strips an inch wide. Wrap them around the outside of the cornucopia, overlapping them and pressing their edges together. Parents should bake the cornucopia at 300 degrees for a half hour, then brush on a mixture of 1 beaten egg and a teaspoon of water. Bake for another half hour, or until the cornucopia hardens and is golden brown. Once it cools, your child can fill it with the season's harvest.

Reindeer Magnet

Has anyone made the reindeer refrigerator magnet using dog biscuits? I'm seeing the instructions everywhere, but can't imagine what it would look like. It might be a cute project for preschoolers. I wish I could find a picture of it.

DS & I made the reindeer magnets yesterday (20 of them). They turned out pretty cute:

Adorable ! Thanks for sharing these. Might be a good craft project for my cub scouts.

Did you use a hot glue gun or regular craft glue?

Craft glue didn't stick to the dog biscuit very well, so I used a hot glue gun.

Thanks for the glue tip. I'm a little leary of letting SOME of my scouts loose with a hot glue gun. I have a low temp one and with close supervision I think they will be fine.

Once again thanks for sharing. These are just too cute! I think I will share your idea with DS teacher. They make ornaments every year in school but I haven't seen anyone make this one. She will probably be grateful for a new idea.

FYI: If you make these, be sure the magnetic strip is cut as long as the biscuit. They're kind of heavy, and won't stick on the fridge if you skimp.
