What is your quilting style?

Hi everyone!

What is your taste in quilting? What type of fabric do you prefer? What colors do you like? What patterns do you like?

I think I have already said it all about my preferences, but I will tell you again!

I like 1930's reproduction fabric, they are mostly clear, pastels. I use the traditional patterns, with a modern twist. I use a rotary cutter and sometimes foundation piecing, so I don't use the traditonal methods. However, when the quilt is finished, nobody knows how I made it! I like some hand piecing. I have hand pieced using the English paper piecing method.

I also like traditional patterns using more modern fabrics. I like muted colors and the scrappy look. I am planning a quilt right now that will be using autumn colors, in a pattern that looks like leaves have been thrown up in the air and have fallen randomly. This is a departure for me, so I am looking forward to it! Still need some fabric first. I guess, I will just HAVE to shop for more fabric! LOL! What a sacrifice!

I love all sorts of things. My favorite colors are plums, lavenders, purples. I also like pinks, sage and hunter greens, burgandy, and some blues. In blues I like navy, periwinkle, and royal blue.

Since I am an new quilter, I am sticking with very simple designs for now. I made one called calico puzzle. The one I finished YESTERDAY, hooray, is a pinwheel. Thanks to Jenna, I was able to quilt a design on the borders. I can't take a picture until my husband returns from his trip. He has the camera. I don't know how to post one, though. Maybe I can learn.

I really like grandmothers fan and also grandmothers garden. So, I don't know what you would call my style.

I am now cutting out squares for a large quilt out of scraps for our bed for a snowball quilt. It will be a very large one.

Jenna, your quilt with fall leaves sounds really lovely. I have been thinking of making a table runner for fall with leaves and acorns. Perhaps venturing out with some applique.

I don't know anything about paper piecing other than what Jenna has shared with me. I just use the rotary cutter and measure away and cut. At least I am having fun and so far made two nice quilts, a table runner and matching placemats.
I am also helping my friend make her first quilt. She is also making a pinwheel.

Hi Linda,
Your fabric taste sounds like my sister's! She like brighter fabrics and purple! We don't usually agree about fabric, but we do agree that we really enjoy fabric! Sometimes, we have purchased fabric for each other for gifts. It is quite easy for me to buy for her, because we fabric shop together a lot and I see what she buys.

Congrats on finishing your recent quilt! Isn't is great to finish one! When my kids were younger, they took turns sleeping under the finished ones I made. I read once that people used to think that whoever slept under a new quilt for the first time, would have their prayers answered and their dreams fulfilled. My kids loved the idea of that! We had to keep track of who's turn it was next!

I would love to see a picture of your quilt, if you can manage it. I don't know how to get pictures up either! Seems rather silly, when my DH is a genius with computers! I need to get him to teach me. He has great patience, since he teaches at work all the time. I have a number of pictures I could share too.

Happy Quilting,
Jenna

I love to try new methods of piecing. I'm not much of a quilter. I really don't have the room for a frame at home and I find that the bulk of a large quilt under the machine arm is very frustrating. So, I make lots of...
Baby quilts, Wall hangings and small pieces such as table runners, pads or jackets.
I've been paper piecing for a while and I just love it. You have probably heard the terms pointed and pointless people. Those that are diligent at matching points and those that just don't quite make it... well, I'm a pointless person. I embrace my pointlessness! I do find that paper piecing helps me to come closer to the former rather than the later.
