What costumes are your kids wearing this year?

What are the popular costumes this year?

Let's share ideas for costume making in case there are some people who haven't decided on one yet.

Luke is going to be a bat. I have his costume almost done and it was really cheap to do. I was inspired by this costume but I didn't want to use an umbrella for the bat wings. So I got a "vampire cape" at the dollar store and cut it down, reverse-scalloping the edges. I cut it long enough so that the very edges of the cape could be attached to the wrists of his sweat shirt. I also basted the neck of the cape to the neck of the shirt. He will wear black sweat pants, black socks and black sneakers. I got a black baseball cap from a neighbor and have some fun foam to make the ears, and felt to make eyes and fangs.

DD is going to be one of the 3 Blind Mice, with her friends.

Obviously we have a rodent theme going here!

Big DS wants to be Pac-Man but if he doesn't get it in gear soon, he won't have a costume to wear. He told me he would take care of it, but hasn't done a thing.

My dd is going as Hannah Montana, of course, could not make this costume, but spent $20 on her costume, including wig.

DD2 is going as a girl from the 50's, we got the costume and I bought the saddle shoes, my mom gave her a scarf for her hair and a big medallion that Mom said all the girls wore. DD3 is going as a bronze fairy princess with wings of course. DD1 normally dresses up but she's a leader in her school's Life Saver's group (support group for her peers) that weekend and won't be home. She's sad about that but she was excited to be chosen a group leader!

My costume is a scarecrow.
I bought fall fabric and made a vest. I sewed raffia around the sleeves of a white blouse and the bottoms of my jeans. I bought a cheap straw hat and put a fall ribbon around it for a hatband.
Maddie will be Elizabeth from Pirates, and Miriam and her friend Victoria are being a tv and remote control, made from cardboard boxes.

DD2 wanted to be a fairy princess so all we needed was wings for $7.

DD1 wanted to be a vampire AGAIN I found a barbed wire black wedding veil to make her costume a little different from last year. For the veil and make up spent $10.

My daughter is going as a fire fighter this year. She is still small and is able to wear the clothes that I have in my dramatic play area as her Halloween costume.

I got off easy this year.....it is the first year I hav not sewn all 3 kids costumes...in 14 years. Jamie found a suit at value village that was perfect for a gangster. Ryan said it was not cool to have mom sew his costume anymore but is now complaining because mine were better ...LOL His is called Vendetta.....I did sew Paige's costume...she is Princess Leah from Star wars. Had to make a long haired wing into her hiar with the side buns...had to twist and sew it into place.

Hugs dEbbie
