My DD has decided that she wants to be a butterfly this year.
I came up with the idea of making her a butterfly with wings and then adding a skirt of some sorts covered with flowers so that she would look like a butterfly in a flower garden ----BUT----she isn't buying me idea. LOL!!
She keeps saying "Mommy, I want to be a butterfly and that's it! I am not wearing flowers too!"
Around here (central Manitoba) the weather usually means that our halloween costumes need to fit over our winter jackets. A couple of years ago my son wanted to be Bob the Builder so I found a pair of big Bob pyjamas and added a nail apron that I found cheap at the hardware store and I duct taped a plastic yellow hard hat to a touque so that it would stay on and keep his head warm. It was a success, but at that age (he was only 3 1/2) about 90% of a kid's costume it in his head anyway! My daughter wanted to be a crocodile...that's another story!

How did you come up with the crocodile outfit?
I bet he loved his Bob the Builder suit! My son went through that stage too.
I agree, at that age, it is mostly in their heads. In fact, just yesterday, my DD came up to me and asked if when we put the butterfly wings on her, would she be able to fly! I can only imagine what she is dreaming about. Young and innocent....what a wonderful combination!!
I made a two-piece crocodile head out of fun foam and my trusty glue gun. I think I used a touque with ear flaps and a tie under the chin to make it stay on better. The two pieces attached with velcro. I bought a huge piece of green felt amd cut it out into sort of a vest with a long tail on it. Of course she was all dressed in green. I have pictures of her. She loved it. One year she was a skeleton. I think she was three. Not a fairy or a princess or anything cute. Where she came up with that one I'll never know. That one involved black sweatpants and shirt and balaclava and gloves and white felt and my lovely glue gun.
Martha Stewart.com has some cute ideas
Last year I went a Science project gone wrong.
I wore monster slippers, butterfly wings and big bobbing eyes on a headband.
The kids loved this.

I usually wear a costume every Halloween. Last year I took some of those small cereal boxes. I stabbed them with plastic knives and ripped open a couple, added lots of red paint then hot glued them onto a long sleeve t-shirt.
Can you guess what I was?
