Thumbs up ISO Red Robin Chicken Tortilla Soup Recipe

I want a recipe that mimics this version. There are tons of variations out there, but I want to try to match Red Robin's. Also does anyone know where to buy those real skinny tortilla strips that they put on top of salads and soups? Thanks everyone!

I too want to make this soup but haven't had much success in an exact match.
I even tried a copycat recipe search. The others just aren't the same.
As for the skinny tortilla strips, I'd make my own by cutting flour tortillas into thin strips and baking them until crisp.

I have NOT made this my self, but it is supposed to be VERY close to the one served at Red Robin Restaurants.

Red Robins Tortilla Soup

8 ounces carrots , diced
8 ounces celery
8 ounces onions
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
to taste salt and pepper
2 tablespoons corn oil
4 cans chicken broth
1 can tomatoes , diced
1 can Rotel tomatoes & chilies , Diced
1 (1.25-1 1/2 ounce) packet taco seasoning
1 (10 count) package corn tortillas , broken into small pieces
12 ounces chicken meat , diced, poached or grilled fajita meat
1 cup milk
12 ounces monterey jack cheese , shredded
to taste corn tortilla chips , broken into small pieces

Saute carrots, onions, celery in corn oil, Garlic Powder, Salt and Pepper until tender.Add chicken broth and bring to boil.Add tomatoes, Rotel, taco seasoning, and chicken.Cut Tortillas into small pieces and add to broth mixture. Let boil for 20 minutes or until tortillas are thoroughly incorporated into soup stirring occasionally to keep from sticking. Reduce heat and add 8 oz. cheese. Simmer for additional 10 minutes. Add milk and simmer for additional 10 minutes. If thicker soup is desired, add more diced tortillas and let incorporate into soup. Garnish with shredded cheese and broken tortilla chips. Substitutions: 1 cup Masa Harina (Masa Flour) for 1 12 ct. package of Yellow Corn Tortillas Gradually add masa flour mixing into broth. Mixing thoroughly into broth. If thicker soup is desired, add more masa flour

Copy cat recipe is not the one

I recall that Red Robin's version has beans and corn. I do not recall carrots and celery. Any input Coll? By the way thanks for the tip on the tortilla strips, that is what I tho ught. I was just hoping to find the "festive colored" strips that they serve. Oh well, I guess we keep plugging away in search of Red Robin's recipe.....maybe I'll take up a part time job there!

I recall the corn and I think beans. If there were any beans I wouldn't have eaten them so my memory on them is a little sketchy.
I don't think there were carrots and celery. I think next time I go there I'll look at it very closely and write down what I see and eat.

Wondered if you made it back and figured out what is in this?

1 -46 to 64 oz bottle of V8 juice
1 - can of Rotel tomatoes & jalapenos
1 - can kidney beans
1 - can of black beans (not in Red Robin's, but I like them....you could use an extra can of kidney beans if you prefer)
1- small bag of frozen corn (like the GG Steamers)
1 - chopped onion
chili powder to taste
2 to 3 grilled chicken breasts, chopped
cilantro
Mix all of the above in large pot and simmer until heated through.
Top with the following as you like:
sour cream
shredded mexican cheese mix
crushed tortilla chips
