Snap Peas ?

They are new to me and I have no idea how to prepare or if you can eat the entire pod or just the inside peas raw. On the bag it says just snap and eat but I think that I've seen people eating the entire pod. My cookbook only had one recipe with them and it was no help.

Snow peas are to be eaten in the pod these are what you find in oriental dishes.

Apricot,

You usually use them in stir fry's or you can use them in stews too. Usually you can eat the whole pod. Unless they are really fat in the pod; then you snap open the pods and just use the same way as peas.

Thanks ladies. Now I do remember seeing them cooked in Asian food but had never seen them raw before. They do have a nice sweet flavor.

I like almost any pea/bean but this is one I don't care for. LOL when I go to Chinese place I pick out these and put them aside and eat the rest of the dish. I know I am bad

there are snap peas and snow peas in our markets and they are somewhat different. Snow peas are thin and you eat the whole pod, but I find they have to be de-stringed. Snap peas are rounded like pea pods and they don't need to be de-stringed. I love snap peas raw straight out of the package or bag. I also stir fry them whole or if I want my dd to eat them, I slice them diagonally so she doesn't see them as quickly. They are so sweet and full of sweet moisture. I use them in just about anything.

I put snap peas in my salads. Love them raw. Here is a recipe I use for snap peas alot.\
2 teaspoons olive oi
3/4 pound sugar snap peas, trimmed
3 green onions, chopped
1 clove garlic, chopped
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sugar snap peas, green onion, and garlic. Season with salt and pepper. Stir-fry for 4 minutes, then remove from heat and stir in the mint leaves

Charlotte, That sounds like a great recipe and easy too. I will have to try it when I get all the ingredients for it.

Well, I tried putting just the insides of the snap peas in a salad and dh decided that he didn't like them because they were too hard for him to chew. I like them raw though.

I grow sugar snap peas in my garden every year and they are geting close to the first picking! They like the cool weather and once it gets hot they are done for the year. I plant my seeds in February. Sorry to go on..... we pick ours and snap the ends off and just steam them....so good! There are a few other recipes I have for them if you would like some of them, but our favorite is just to steam them and then you eat the whole thing pod and all!

I'm going grocery shopping soon so I can try some of these recipes. Steaming them might soften them enough so dh can chew them. He has a lot of missing teeth and is waiting on getting a partial on one side.
