| Grandma's Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies These are flat-out the best chocolate chip
cookies on Earth. The dough may look a
little dry and hard to work with but well
worth the effort. Grandma's Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup Crisco shortening, solid
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs, unbeaten
1 teaspoon hot water
1 cup chopped nuts
12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate bits
2 cups rolled oats
1 tablespoon vanilla
Mix flour, soda, and salt. Cream shortening,
add sugars gradually, creaming until light
and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating
after each addition. Add hot water and
vanilla, then dry ingredients. Add nuts,
chocolate bits and oatmeal. Mix thoroughly
and blend.
Drop by half-teaspoon onto greased cookie
sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for about 8-12
minutes or until top is just golden brown.
Let stand on cookie sheet a few minutes
before removing.
