My husband taught adult upgrading several years
ago. It is my understanding that 50% of students
actually graduate from Grade 12. In some areas,
Grade 9 is all that people manage. While we have
excellent educational systems many women still
find themselves pregnant at 17 or 18 (or 14-16).
I applaud you as you go back to school. You will develop
more advanced thought processes that will help
you in the difficult decisions of life. You will
discover that by attending school and learning
about your society at large, that you will
not be "taken advantage of" as readily in many
areas of running a household. Any additional
training you receive will help you create
a better life for yourself and your children
is a bonus. The first 3 years of your children's
life is very important that mom be there, and
of course for the rest of their lives! I have
dabbled in jobs outside of the home, and left
dh in charge. The financial aid they provided
reduced stress, and the children grew closer to
dh. As a single parent you have difficult challenges
ahead, but with the support of family and friends
your children will grow up to be resourceful
and dependently independent. No one is truly
independent and sharing each others burdens
and cares is what God intended. YOu may have
times in the next 3-4 years that you want to
quit during a very stressful time. Pray and
ask God for guidance at these times, and be
assured that whatever decisions you make
can be blessed by Him. I've seen women take
10 years to get their degrees because many
family members passed away (parents, cousins,
nephews, etc). Keep your focus on God,
your family, then your job or studies and
you will be blessed.
Take care.
