Hi!

Debbie, Chris is right!

(I started this post so you know what I've been through).

My son has had a seizure disorder since he was almost 4 (he's 7 now). The doctors have had him on Depakote since the first seizure. And then by the 4th seizure they added Tegretol. In the seizures since, the meds have been slowly increased. I now have a new doctor who has finally decided to change one of his meds from Tegretol to Topamax. He said that after 3 yrs of break through seizures it's time for a change.

Most doctors I've had say that my son is on a lot of meds for his age but it seems to be working (other than the break through seizures). He takes 9 and a half pills a day (1500mg).

I spoke with this doctor about the sudden attitude change that happened this summer and was told that it was a parenting problem, not the meds. We are working on a better attitude.

I have a few friends whose kids have been on meds for about a yr or so and then weaned off and are doing fine.

If you want to talk or need someone to listen you can always contact me. AuntieKLE@cfl.rr.com

Kathy

Hi Kathy. Yes, being the youngest of three our son's attitude is due to parenting. He's not taking school seriously, not doing his chores all the time, ect. I know that children test parents and you have to be on top of things, but his attitude changed when he was diagnosed. He has been taking full advantage of the situation. I say that because I had to let family members know not to treat him any differently because of the seizures. He thought he could get special attention and get away with certain things just because of his health. Now does anyone have that problem????? Debbie
