Breakfast will be Apple and Spice French Toast. It's a make-the-night-before dish. Just pop in the oven and bake in the morning.

Lunch/Dinner will be turkey, mashed pot/gravy, corn, cranberry sauce, black olives, rolls, devilled eggs, and pumpkin pie for dessert. I'm also making fudge this year. And since my daughter wants to do Cmas Cookies - there will be those too.

Christmas Eve we go to my Step moms family xmas at her sisters. They usually serve Cabbage Rolls and a bunch of yummy side dishes!
We do a Xmas brunch with dhs family this year I will be hosting and probaly for the next few as we are the only ones with small children. We will make pancakes, eggs, bacon and everyone will be bringing something breakfast like. After that we then head on over to one of my grams she will have a cheese plate/ relish tray thing. THen over to my other grams this year there will be about 20 of us. I am bringing cheesy potatoes. I think were having ham, green beans ........ One of these years I would like to be brave and say no and spend a family xmas with my immediate family espcially next year as our baby will be here (due in Feb)and I dont want to run all over Ohio!

Leighann,

Once we had our daughter, I took over at least one of the get togethers rather than run all over the place to visit everyone. Now, our daughter wants to have ALL the parties at our house - she's my budding little hostess!

Christmas meals

What my mom always did and I like to do- although my kids have mixed reviews about- is make hungarian stuffed cabbage. Nice and simple. white rice, ground pork and little salt pepper, red pepper. rolled in par boiled cabbbage leaves and put on a bed of saurkraut. the pork feels light being ground, and the little bit of fat it has mellows out the tart of the saurkraut. It is so perfect, because around that time of year, everyone is eating so many sweets.
my mom would also make cheese stroda for breakfast, which is like ham and cheese in the oven.
cheers!

chuckle X-mas eve and x-mas morning

On Christmas eve we have continued the tradition my husband's Mom does at her home in Manitoba, Canada....

We used to drive out there every Christmas...12 hour drive from here in Calgary....we had some hair raising trips through white-outs, black ice and snow...we decided to stop the madness when we were almost hit head on by a guy driving on black ice using his cruise control...we usually had four days off from work so did not stop anywhere along the way, except to gas up the vehicle, even when the road was too slippery to even stand on, as time was too short....

anyway...

( I tend to ramble on....hope you're all not to bored to read on...)

We serve up an X-mas eve dinner with a Polish influence...

First we have borscht...which my Mother-in-law and Sister-in-law make each year from their garden...

Then we have perogies and cabbage rolls... We made perogies about a month ago and froze them...I will make the cabbage rolls X-mas eve day....

...traditionally the meal should be meatless...but we cheat a bit and have salmon...either baked or canned...we also make head cheese from the pork hocks and allow that to be served as well...

...we usually have a jelly salad with fruit or veggies added in...

...along with this a green salad with the oil and vinegar dressing she (Teenie...my Mom in law) she showed me how to make

...then we have to have Kutya...it is a dish made with whole buckwheat, poppy seeds and honey....this is to bring good fortune in the new year...they used to go outside and throw it on the roof to bring good luck to the family...when they had the farm it was tossed into the garden to encourage good crops in the following growing season...

... Teenie always made me a cherry slice so I make that and also pineapple delight to honor my Mom, who is now deceased but loved that dessert and loved to make it for us as much as we loved to eat it.

Then the presents used to be opened....we now wait for X-mas morning..except that we open one small one each that night...

This year I am going to make Cranberry muffins X-mas morning from a recipe that can be made the night before, refrigerated, popped into the muffin tins and baked in the morning... will send a batch to my sister's as well so they can enjoy a fresh muffin with their morning coffee as well

Crowemommy,
Thats what I am trying to do at least one! However my grandmother would take as an insult if she didnt host or if I did host I would have to invite my uncle and his family. He has 5 kids 1 is now married with a child. One is now out of hs so wants her boyfriend to attend then theres yikkkkesss it adds up and I just cant accomidate that! Some day I will figure it out. I suppose I think that we could just do dessert for the big family and dinner with just the immediate. Oh well that probaly sounds rude but its not like were close.

I like the idea of your monthly parties. You are right, it doesn't take a lot of money to have people over for dinner, especially if you stock up as you do your shopping and have extra foods on hand, which it sounds like you do!! I just had a Christmas brunch for my girlfriends. The menu was simple enough to prepare and everyone really enjoyed themselves!
What is Bacon Stuffed Eggs?
Can you share your recipe?

GWTWmom........I like your pizza tradition! Sometimes our most precious memories and traditions start with not having much money!!

And lastly, LADYBUG314.......... Your apple and spice frenchtoast !!!

Apple and Spice French Toast

Here you go ladies.... ENJOY!!

___________________________________

Apple and Spice French Toast

Ingredients:
1 large loaf French or Italian bread
8 large eggs
3-1/2 cups milk
1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
3 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
6 to 8 medium-sized cooking apples
2 tablespoons butter

Slice bread into 1-1/2 inch slices. Butter a 9x13-inch glass pan. Place bread in the baking dish, spacing tightly together. In separate bowl, whisk together eggs, 1/2 cup sugar, milk, and vanilla. Pour one half of the egg mixture over bread slices. Peel, core, and slice the apples. Place sliced apples on top of bread to cover. Pour the remainder of the egg mixture evenly over apples. Mix the other 1/2 cup sugar with cinnamon and nutmeg and sprinkle evenly over top of apples. Dot with butter. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

The next morning, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Uncover
dish and bake for 1 hour. Remove from oven and allow to sit
for 5 to 10 minutes before serving. Cut into squares and serve
with warm maple syrup.

Trainlady as for the HAM no all Joanne ever did (and I do) is prick the ham all over cutting off as much fat as possible, then mix the two together and pour over ham and every now and then baste it with it and I turn ham over about midway of cooking. I am either going to use the GE Roaster for it or my Turkey breast not sure which yet. If I do the ham in it will put carrots in with it, not sure what I will put in with the turkey breast if I do that in there. I love to make lots of things on special days like that. No cooking for next couple days lol.

I just found out I don't have any green beans nor sweet potatoes and I want/need both for Christmas dinner. More later friends
