Barbie house plans?

Hi everyone. I am wondering if anyone knows if there are any plans on how to build a Barbie house? My daughter wants one for Christmas and I would like to make one because the ones on the market cost a fortune and aren't very big or attractive I don't think. I don't even know if I can do it but I would like to try. If anyone has any great ideas, please let me know.

Thanks ahead of time!

barbie house

Hi. When I was younger and wanted a barbie house - my mom took a book shelf - just partical board - and turned that into my house! We got peel and stick floor tiles for the floors. We divided them into rooms by what the floor looked like. I know she hunted for a wall paper with a small print, but now you could easily find some great scrapbook paper that would make beatiful wall paper.
She marked where we wanted windows and Dad cut them with a jigsaw. It worked great! At that time they didn't have a good kitchen set for Barbie - so we even took some balsa wood and wood glue and made kitchen counters! Hopefully my daughter will want to play soon - so I can have some fun!

Lightbulb Cool idea!

That's a great idea! I hadn't even thought of that! I just might have to do that. I was thinking of all the recyclable things I could make furniture out of. I just don't want to spend a fortune on a house that she probably will only play with for another couple years. THanks so much. I better get to work on that!

furniture

Velvetta containers are a perfect size for couches and beds.
If you have some spray adhesive - use that to cover the boxes with fabric - or attach the pretty paper to the wall.
good Luck!

I ordered a plastic canvas book...

I just received a plastic canvas book which I ordered from Annie's Attic. It is to make almost everything for the Barbie doll house out of plastic canvas.

I found, in one of the kids or parenting magazines, plans for a Barbie house made out of plastic shelving. I made one for my dd and we've had a ball decorating it. I took cardboard and glued it to the back and sponge painted and even bought a discount border at Home Depot for a $1.00 (had to look through to find one that wasn't awful.) and used it as wall paper. We had some carpet remnants around and I cut them down and put rugs in. We've had lots of fun with color and deocorating. I even put a few holes in the cardboard for windows and glued little drapes to the sides of the windows. It's been fun for us.

If you go with this idea, make sure you use a long shelf and not a short one. You won't have enough room for all the Barbie stuff. (Found this out the hard way after Christmas. Luckily I hadn't started decorating the Barbie house yet!)

I use the top shelf of a long four shelf for storing the little things away from the baby, though she's starting to get interested in Barbies now too.

Good luck!

Update on Barbie furniture set

Here is the current site. If you don't find it, then just type in the search box "Fashion Doll Furniture" and it will take you to the site.

My friend is currently working on the plastic canvas Barbie house that she got from Annie's Attic. It is 18" wide x 40" long x 38" high. She has been working steadily since September (5 hours or more a day. Not kidding) and she has the foundation, living room and most of the stairway done. It is built room by room and it is sturdy. I put my puppy on the ceiling of the living room and it didn't even wiggle. My puppy weighs about 10 lbs. She jokes that by the time she gets this finished she will be able to build a real house.
