I think it was Christmas 1977 or 78.
My family made "stockings" out of small brown paper bags and filled them with fruit, hard candies and chocolates.
We walked around downtown Bakersfield and under the Beale Street bridge giving out our "stockings" to people who were homeless.
It was my first experience "giving" to a person on the streets.
I will never forget that first man I gave to. He was asleep under the eave of a building and as I approached him my mom said to be careful that I didn't startle him.
I touched his shoulder and asked if I could give him a Christmas stocking and a hug.
Well, HE started crying and said I was the only person who remembered him at Christmas.
I think it was the Christmas of 1983. Just my second Christmas as a married person and I was about 7 months pregnant. My sister, who was single at the time, was here visiting from CO. The evening before Christmas Eve, her and some freinds went out for the evening. One of those famous sudden Iowa snow storm came up. They began the 10 mi. trip home and as they turned the last corner to head into town they got stuck in a snow bank. They spent the night in the car with a quilt between the four of them and no heat. When it was daylight my sisiter and one of her friends walk one mile to the friends parent's house. The wind was very strong and both girls had some frost bite by the time they got there. All of the girls family and friends were very worried about them while they were missing, but had no way to find them during the storm. Since I lived 3 mi from town on a road that was last on the list for the snow plow to come by, my bil brought his own tractor and snow blower 5 mi up the road to blow a path to the highway so I could get to my parents house for Christmas and see my sister. We were all very thankful that all four girls survived the cold temps and even thouh my sister had some frost bite, it would heal. I was also very gateful that my bil was so thoughtful to help me get to town and be a part of our family celebration.
I think it was the year 1960 and my DH asked me to be his wife. He got down on his knee and the whole bit. I told him that he had to ask my DD asI had I child from another marriage so he did and the res is History but we waited a few years to make it offical.

Oh Bunny, you will be truly missed by your FC friends God's speed.
Bunny how sweet.
My most favorite Christmas was the year mom had to make the five of us girls a doll. I still have mine to this date. And I've made Miriam and Maddie each one.

I have 3 special Christmases. #1 is the year dd#2 was born, she came home at just 5lbs so she could notr handle a cold Christmas so we stayed home that year. I made a meatloaf for dh an my folks stopped by as did my in laws. It was quiet and peaceful and very loving. This one is bittersweet, my dad was dying and we tried so hard to ignore it and pretend all was fine. He was so sick and died in April. The next year my dbs and I tried again to pretend all was ok and make Christmas as we remembered it. We learned a lesson my dad would have thought we knew you cannot go back only forward
