I have heard about the "Ho Ho Ho' thing here.. It seems there are far too many "Gangsta" kids that sncker at the saying because of the demeaning slang refering to women. How awfully sad and disgraseful is THAT?

So... Happy Holidays vs Merry Christmas? It doesn't matter much to me. If I know someone celebrates Christmas, I offer them a merry Christmas. If they celebrate Hannukah, I wish them a happy Hannukah. Otherwise to a stranger I say happy holidays.

I live in a NYC suburb, so diversity is synonymous with my life... I was raised in a Jewish home, so I didn't grow up celebrating Christmas, but my husband was raised in a Catholic home, and he did. We celebrate all of our religions holidays, although neither of us attends a church or synagogue.

I have friends who are Muslim, atheist, Budhist, Unitarian, and Wiccan. (It makes for energetic and interesting dinner conversation!) But respect and tolerance amongst us is what is most important. There is no judgement about which religion is "right"... because (aside from my athesist friend). we all come to Him in our own way... Whichever path we choose gets us there no matter what kind of Holy Day wishes we offer one another...

Therefore... Merry Christmas!! to all my Christian friends here at FC. May your Holy Day be blessed.

Meg I have been wearing my christmas t-shirt to curves in the morning, it has HO HO HO written across the front with a sparkly christmas tree.
You know when I bought it I thought it was cute, but now when I wear it I think wow I would not have put bad connotations to it before, not fair and spoilt my fun.

Up here it has gone back to HO HO HO as there was such a backlash at the shops that Santa said this.

Thank you for the welcome and please do write me if the NC'ers of this group ever decide to meet.

I havent heard any talk about the HO HO HO issue but I watch the news and have seen at least 7 different town meetings all over the US having discussions concerning Christmas displays of a religious nature. I do wonder where these same folks are the other 330 days of the year as they walk right past nasty , disgusting graffiti all over the walls of their public and private buildings. Why arent they at the town hall discussing how that can be stopped. I would far rather see any religious display of any faith than the graffiti I see.

Very well put! I wonder how these same people who are making a big deal over religious themes or the 10 Commandments in public places aren't that concerned over the nasty words in music blasted over the radio or the foul languge used in public, or even the bad graffiti?

I don't appreciate others taking away my right to worship as I please or even to keep the religious foundation that our forefathers wanted. Their right to be atheists don't supercede my rights to not be an atheist.

I am not offended if someone comes to me and wishes me a happy Hanakah, even though I am not Jewish. Too many people worrying about being politically correct if you ask me.

I use both of the phrases depending on how I am approached beforehand.
