Question Christmas Gifts for Teachers?

I have an idea of what Im buying for everyone on our lists except for DS's teacher. I know that there are many fellow FCers out there who have gone through this year after year and Im hoping you will share your ideas for what works good and what didnt go over too well.

Im looking for something thats not too expensive. Maybe two things ....one practical and one whimsy and cute. Any ideas out there?

I can attempt to do anything but sew. Please help!

Thanks,
Tami

Christmas gifts for teachers.

As a teacher, I appreciate gifts of things I can use in my classroom. Pencils, crayons, markers, stickers, paper, notebooks, etc. So many kids come without any supplies.
I, personally, do not like receiving gifts from the kids. The children who don't bring anything in always feel terrible, so I encourage all the children to just make me a card.
A note from a parent showing appreciation would be valued by me much more then anything you could buy.

I like what our school does. They request that the student's do not give gifts to the teachers. That things be brought in for the needy in our area. They usually "sponsor" needy families from our area, and supply a list of items that are needed and sizes of clothing. They even accept used items. Then these items are packaged, wrapped, and taken to the family the last day before christmas break which is usually 12/23. Not sure what they will be doing this year.

So other than that I can not give ideas for actual gifts for teachers.

Teacher gifts.

Virtually all the kids in my school are needy. 99+% free meals = low income. Kids at my type of school need sweatshirts, sweaters and winter coats. I like to see the money go to the kids instead of the teachers. Their families seem to be OK food wise - food stamps and free feeding programs at school. The clothes are more difficult though.

Wow! Thanks for all of the ideas.

I think that I will go for the gift basket for the class and then something small for his teacher. She does have a treasure box so I think that I will add to it too.

Thanks Mullberry for your thoughts as a teacher. I will sit down and write her a letter telling her what a difference she has made in my sons life.

I wish that our school had a donation such as other schools but our school is like Shawn said.....some teachers expect things and will have it no other way. Fortunately, I dont think his teacher is this way at all and I really think she will appreciate anything that she is given.

Thanks Shawn for the great ideas. I love the book idea. If I make it to our Mall or somewhere like that, Ill look for a book or something along that line too.
