* Pay the paper boy..a yrs subscription leaves Grandma with more money in her pocket.

* Count Basey, CD...and why not a new CD player

* John Wayne DVD movie..why not a dvd player too.

* Books on tape or CD

* A night on the town coupon...A coupon good for an evening out
with your loved one. They really want your time!

* Bright cheery pillows, stuffed animals, socks, flowers.

* Gift cards for restaurants in Grandmas area..make it for 2 so she can invite a friend.

* Magazine subscriptions

* Pay Grandmas utilities for the month.

* Basket of goodies Grandma would never buy for herself..gourmet candies, jellies, cookies, etc.

A few more ideas:
Books of postage stamps
a pack of assorted greeting cards,
a pot of lettuce or tomato seedlings which will grow and be ready to pick (but hey, we have Christmas in summer, maybe won't work in winter?)
tubs of frozen soup or meals

I like the idea on meals for the freezer. I had suggested to an elderly customer that lives alone to make her meatloaf in cupcake pans and freeze the individual loafs to bake later in her toaster oven.

We give gas cards & restaurant gift certificates to our parents.

Those are really good ideas.

This year, we are giving my Mother the newest edition of BHG's cookbook. She is like me, she likes to read them like books more than anything.

I have also found a place here in town that makes t-shirts with the name of our town on it. She will be getting one of those too.

We are also sending her a car magnet with the name of my son's school on it.

Then we will make something homemade to send her from my kids.

Probably before things are over, there will be more things added to the box too.

My mom love a loaf of homemade bread and a jar of jam or jelly. Plus anything that I can ,like homemade baked beans, beef stew just something that is easy for her to heat and eat.

Everything mentioned sounds like great gifts to receive...
sometimes as we get older our tastes change and what is nice this year isn't next year..I have a huge drawer of gifts that were given to me that I will never use..they are nice and the thoughts behind them were great and appreciated but most are not something I would buy or a fragrance I like...I have recycled many of them...
as I am thinking that I may be just in the age group of your grandparents I will tell you what I think is ALSO nice..a gc from anywhere..Walmart, Kmart, Macy's, Target, Sears, JCPenny and the list goes on..it allows you to buy what you like in the colors and sizes you want and often what you need....just a thought!!!!!

My Mom often asks for grocery boxes....with t.p., flour, potatoes, etc. stuff you use everyday and tend to run out of. Of course she gets other gifts.
