LOL! I can relate! A friend of ours lived in an area where they didn't have MrPibb soda, so she always requested a case for Christmas or birthday! Yeah, shipping does bite on heavy stuff! FedEx usually has the best rates.

I ship packages to my son and daughter in law about once a month and to my sister about once a month. They live in the Phoenix area.
However, there are things that are not available here in deep East Texas, so they send that stuff to me..... it evens out....
For gifts, it's awfully hard... so what I do with my son is send them one or two gift cards from various area restaurants.
This gives them a night out together and a good meal.... *s*
It's become a very favorite gift!
This year I'm going to try to get tickets to a Mystery theater in town for them....they get to see a play in which they participate and supper as well...... I'll get 3 tickets the the three of them can go....
This actually works out cheaper in the long run....no returns, and total enjoyment. *s*
The oddest request I ever received was from a distant relative in Europe. He wanted a Mustang, yes,the car....and even told me the color!...
After laughing for a while... and talking to myself, I went to Woolworth's, bought the red mustang, and mailed it to him.....*grinz*
I never heard from them again...LOL

My grandson asked for a flying bike and pills to make him self invisible. No big deal at all ! when he was told that there were no such things he said Santa could make anything. He had not seen the movie ET either so we do not know where he got the ideas. He was 5 at the time and just knew he would get them cause he had been good.

I was laughing when I read your post about the car, Jeannie. My husband wanted a new car for years and we never had money. So, he now proudly diplays 15 nice shiny red toy cars on his desk. Finally last year he was able to buy his " real red new car" . But , he still has all his toys!

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.
My daughter went through a stage of being crazy about horses, every birthday and every Christmas, she wanted a pony. Even now, if we are taking about gifts, she says "Did you get me a pony?"
Last year, shortly before her birthday, I saw this cute thing on sale at Eckerd: one of those hobby horses, the horse head on a stick, and when you squeeze the ear, it makes a neighing sound, moves its head up and down, and then plays the Lone Ranger cavalry-is-coming tune. Of course, we HAD to get it, wrapped it up well in a BIG box, writing on the side of the wrapping paper, CONTENTS: ONE PONY.
Told her on the phone, "Daddy and I got your b'day present!"
Jennifer: (as always): Didja get me a pony?
Me: YUP!
Jen: nahhh, fer real.
Me: A pony!
So she came over, with her husband, and unwrapped it and she LOVED IT! Brought it in to work and showed everyone, "My parents finally bought me a pony for my birthday!"
