I have done quite a few. Especially when we were in the military and were baking for the single soldiers who could not get home. I , of course baked for the ones stationed overseas during both Gulf wars, and Afghanistan. (Don't use Chocolate)
What we did was bake 2 dozen cookies at home at our convience. (those that froze well were excellent choices) We set the date for the cookie exchange. We brought both 2 dozen cookies over. One dozen was to exchange the other was to eat while we were there and to share the receipes. Almost everyone brought two different types of cookies. One to share and one to send home. That way you got 2 new receipes, and a new cookie to eat then and one to eat at the holiday season.
Now my mom did a cake exchange with her church ladies. I never got the hang of that one. Too much work. Hope this helps you some.
Well you have to understand there were alot of ladies involved in this cookie exchange when I was in military. At least 50 so we each to home a dozen that each woman had bought. 50 dozen cookies. Needless, to say, none of ever took that many home, we only took mayber, 5-6 dozen and always donated what was left to the airman who couldn't go home for Christmas and to the guys who would be on alert at Christmas. (Not being able to be home, even though they were still on base.) The rest we always sent to the Children's ward at the hospital. None got wasted, that is for sure. We also, made sure that if any family in the squadron was new and their family belongings had not arrived during the holidays, that the children always got presents, tree, cookies, you know the basics for the holidays.
The ladies brought over two cakes one to eat there and one to trade. They always brought over the recipes for both cakes and then you got one cake for yourself and two recipes. They did this for Christmas, also.
I thought I was getting a head-start on Christmas shopping. I bought some shirts for my 20 year old DS yesterday. Today, I was looking at the receipt, and it says returns must be made with a receipt dated within 90 days! I'll be returning it ALL today!
Vickilynn, before you return your Xmas gifts, call the Target store and ask for the manager..and inquire about this..I know in the Target store 100 miles from us..they have 2 receipts..one for gifts and one for non-gifts..
In earlier times, they used to write Xmas Gifts on the reciepts...such simpler times..lol
