We've always done a real tree. I'm from Washington state, and I have never known anyone to do a fake tree until we moved to Utah. We just love the smell of a real tree.

We have a fake tree. I have real trouble being around a real tree for more than an hour or so. And if there's a cat, or any "fragrance" thing like thost plug-in scent things, I can go into a full-blown asthma attack so visiting at Christmas can be interesting.... I try to avoid a cat/real tree combo like the plague.

The cat and the tree reminds me of the Griswalds on Family Vacation , loved that movie!

Sorry about your asthma, luckily my ds asthma is cold air/season related.

Well my tree went up sunday a small one this year artifical I have a beautiful white 6 ft tree but too much work this year to put it up and we won't be seeing any famiy this years so just my little 24" green tree decorated with Gold and burganey colors. My window light are the 3 candle type and of course our new friend Smokey (cat 7 1/2 mt old) decided that it wa in his way of looking out the window so removed them onto the floor. he will learn quickly he hasn't gone near the tree yet. But that is all for decorations this year.

Hello!

Our kids make a "regular" b-day cake! Any ole' cake will do!

We had the tradition of tagging our tree in October and cutting it down the day before Thanksgiving. Now that we are planning on traveling annually to Mexico, it'll be awhile before we can use natural trees. Oh well, time with mom is alot more valuable!

We have a tall 7' tree artificial one. i prefer a real one but with the carpet and the needles we use artificial instead. It has mostly angels on it the majority of the ornaments are figures versus round balls and they are silver, white, clear and FEW Gold ones.

Kathy, I love that Christmas Vacation movie too.

It's a tradition for me and DH to watch that movie on the day he hangs up the Christmas lights. And yes, the whole time he is up there on the ladder we all call him "Clark."

For the past couple of years I had made a "Countdown to Christmas" chain. This year I just didn't get to it by the beginning of Advent! My 7 year old DD was sad; she missed the chain. Each day one of the kids would pull off the link for the day and it would have an activity to do.
So I made the chain today.
Some of the activities are things like doing a good deed for another person, listening to Christmas music at dinner, going for a ride to see the lights, watching a Christmas move, having a picnic by the light of the Christmas tree, decorating the tree or house, etc.

This year I'm also going to do something different. I made red and green links for AFTER Christmas (the before-Christmas chain is purple and pink) and we will have activities for the 12 days of Christmas.

I am going to pass that idea over the dd for my dgd can do, the oldest one which is 4 would like this I think
and the youngest gdaughter is 3 and may like this, once she gets the hang of what it means and if we can keep her focus on it she would for sure.

I have a friend that she hangs decorations in her big tree outside with christmas snowflakes and christmas balls, etc. it looks beautiful.

We have an artifical one but more to the fire issue also would probably bother DH allergies. FIL was a fireman so we were warned of the dangers of live. But I do love the scent.

Ours is not up yet due to cleaning and having to get ready for a Santa Breakfast on Sat. and lots of other stuff this week. So hopefully it will go up Sunday.

Barbszy - I like your chain idea. We did a chain last year but I like the idea of putting on the things to do and using it after Christmas too.
