I made some last year for each person in my family.. I used puffy paints, & glitter paints. I used small stencils to trace the letters & different bojects that reflected each person.
I got some plain frosted ones this year for friends.. I think i'm going to try metalic paint pens on these..
I got some glass paint pen thing & it ran doen the ornament.. not a happy camper there..

Can you post a pic of what you made?

Tami, I have used the PermEnamel
glass paint and love it ...never used the irridesent though. Looks interesting. As far as writing on things I prefer to put paint or a thinned glue into a bottle made for writing with paints. it has a metal fine tip that writes small like an ultra fine sharpie which by the way I have also used on glass. if I think of it tommorrow I will get the name off my bottles to share.

I did the clear glass ornaments a couple of years ago and used Jones Tones Paints, the ones for fabric and just added glitter, did all the children, grandchildren, hubby and mine, they turned out pretty good.I also added with the paint either a Christmas stocking, pointsettia,or other Christmas design to the backs of each one.

Picture of paint bottle and tip

If this works there are two pictures here. one of the bottle I use to write with. the second one is a close up of the tiny tip you can use that comes with it. These are to give you an idea of how thin a line you can make with paint. Hope this gives somebody some useful info to use.

I put names on Christmas ornaments once, I used glue that would adhere to the ornament and then used lots of glitter and made the names glittery. It was fun and the relatives who got them, seemed to enjoy them. For a while I made ornaments every year for my Aunts and Uncles on my Dad's side of the family. I like to make gifts alot as I enjoy putting a twist on the gifts given, so the person has a unique gift. Last Christmas I made some fabric ornaments for some cousins, they were little hearts and I did a blanket stitch around the edege of them and attached a ribbon and a ribbon bow to the top of them. Also made their son a little pillow case for a small pillow with his name hand embroidered on it too. They seemed to like the gifts.

I've found some ideas on how to update your christmas baubles or to make those dented/cracked ones you thought about throwing out usable again.

Problem: Surface was scratched due to improper storage; it rubbed against other decorations.
Solution: Hide the scratches with velvet ribbon. Apply a line of hot glue to the ornament, starting at the top and going all the way round the ball. Adhere a strip of ribbon to the ball. Repeat so you have six evenly spaced ribbon lines running down the ball. Glue ribbon loops to the top of the ball so they drape over the ball. For the topper, fold over some ribbon three times, going back and forth, so it looks as if you laid three bows on top of each other. Make a final loop around the center of the layered ribbon, and tie or glue to the top.

Problem: Dents marred the surface of this basic, boring plastic ornament.
Solution: Head to the grocery store to purchase a bag of dried split peas. Glue the split peas onto the ornament to create a fun polka-dot pattern that disguises the dents. Add a pea-color satin ribbon for hanging. For a similar look, glue craft-store beads or rhinestones to a plain ball.

Problem: Another plain clear ornament needed something -- anything -- added.
Solution: Remove the ornament's metal top. Fill the ornament about one-half to two-thirds with artificial snow. (Glitter, Epsom salts, or sugar would also work.) Put top back on. Adhere silvery snowflake decals designed for scrapbooking to the ornament. Loop a string of craft-store beads (office supply ball chain can also be sued) through the top; tie the beads into a bow.

Problem: This uninteresting clear-ball ornament seemed like an unfinished crafts project.
Solution: Remove the metal top. Paint the inside of the ball with pink spray paint, swirling around until it sticks and starts to dry. Let dry; put top back on. Use stencils and acrylic paint to personalize the ball with a name or a short holiday greeting. Tie a pink bow to the top.

Problem: Stripes in red and bright yellow-gold were unappealing, and the ornament looked dated, cheap, and plasticlike.
Solution: Coat the ornament with matte silver spray paint; let dry. Glue on beads to create glistening vertical stripes. Finish with a big sheer silver bow tied to the top.

I think I may have a look at changing some of mine this year.

Bilby,These are really good ideas. I have used rub ons and decals to dress up ornaments too. Or write on them with a sharpie in a cordinating color.

Bump this thread in hopes of sparking some interest. Come on crafters...post.

Actaully it's funny Candy, some of the ideas used are ones we've all sorta done before and that little bit of taking an idea a little further can lead you into a whole new direction, and you wonder why you didn't think of it sooner!
... and before you know it voila! something great and new for your decorations, or other craft to make your house look that little more special.
