I think the 6x6 recipe books will look really cute & be a very manageable size.
The pictures will be a nice touch. I'm hoping to include a picture of the person who originally created the recipe, like my grandmother's chicken soup and a picture of her. Also, if the recipe is used for a specific occasion I'll add pictures of the family at that occasion. For instance, my breakfast casserole is something I only make on Christmas morning, so I would add pix of everyone on that holiday along with the recipe.
Your book will be a fantastic keepsake for your family!
I like that idea of having a picture of the family members to go along with the recipes...I used to do a lot of scrap booking before my eyes got really bad...I did a memory book for my grandson from the first Ultra Sound picture to when he turned 2 and now he will be 7 in June...it is something he will be able to always have...
Have fun doing your cook books...you will have to post some pictures when you get one done...I would love to see it...Hugs

My recipie books are the regular notebook size. It would allow for a recipe and pix on the same page, plus you could put more than one recipe and /or pix on the same page. I bought the notebooks at Dollar Tree, they now have scrapbooking items so it isn't as costly as it used to be. By the way, its just the right size for my cookbook holder. The holder are also easy to make and are on an easel so the book is easier to see.
Another idea is the hand towels that you can hang. The top can be crochet or sewn. You can get 2 from one tea towel so they'd have a set. I use left over yarn or fabric so I'm only spending 1 dollar per set. I usually put it with a quart jar of cookie, muffin, etc. mix. Ingredients are layered which looks nice. My nonbakers love this as they only have to add the eggs and milk.
I think that I am going to see if I can get some pictures to go with recipes that have been passed down two or three generations to put in mine. That might be kind of neat. I know we have some but not many.

this summer my sister and I are going to try to do a reciepe book for all of my family I've collected recipes from everyone plus I have my mom's recipe box. We are going to try to have it printed and bound depending on the cost. I too want to include pictures of family memories and add a little history about our family. I've be planning this in my mind for a couple of years now it's just time to put it on paper hopefully it will work.
love,
Rosey
Vivian the tea-towels you are talking about with the crochet tops...I do those,I also make the pot holder out of sealer rings...I did up some as Christmas gifts one year with the tea-towels...with different types of tea and coffee and put everything into a basket with homemade Flavored Butters that I make...everyone seemed to like them...I might do it again this year...
Rosey the recipes books sound nice that you are doing...You can actually buy a book Binder that will cut the slots and then you piece them together yourself...
Hope everyone is having a wonderful day...

We are making wooden recipe boxes this year. They will hold 3 x 5 cards double wide. Just out of pine, stain them and use the router and letters to etch in the word "recipes" on the lid. I plan on putting a few family recipes in those that I gathered years ago from my MIL. I also have been working on crossstitch ornaments; I have two done so far. They are sort of big ones, one is a bell pull that is 12" long, and the other is a darling pic of Santa's face that is a 5 x 7. SO several more to make of those. Other than that unless something els copmes to mind we have this coming Christmas figured out!

When I was young we used to go "skinny dipping"; now we just "chunky dunk"
Another idea is the Secret Santa. We've done it several ways, but it will take planning. #1) Pick some family that has had it rough and for 12 days leave something on their porch. Its usually done like the 12 days of Christmas. For example, Day 1 would be some pears in a basket and a cute note, 2 could be 2 frozen hens or gift card for a dinner. We liked the 5 BIG oranges for the 5 golden rings, and 8 milk chocolate bars for day 8. On the 12th day its just 12 items from the dollar store that are fun or useful. I remember one year we did a family that had 3 kids and had lost the fourth child earlier in the yr. Christmas wasn't going to be very happy for them, and we decided to Secret Santa them. Since neither my dh or I can run (much less run fast), we had someone else deliver for us. They were getting too curious about who it was, so on the last day we arranged for the delivery to be made while we were visiting. It was such a blessing to see how something so simple could mean so much to these people. It was such a blessing and I'll never forget how happy it made them.
The way we do it most of the time now is pick 12 people who need a little encouragement and we make up 12 baskets of al kinds of goodies, little games, etc. and set them on the doorstep at night. They fine it later or in the morning. We never tell them who it is or let on in any way. We don't get a thank you, or pat on the back, but we do get immense pleasure sharing the Christmas Spirit of giving . If you can try it and see what a blessing it is!
What a wonderful idea, Vivian! I have a friend who lost her husband while she was recovering from cancer surgury. It has been a rough year for her and I know she would enjoy a secret Santa like this. Thanks for the idea!
Vivian,
What a tremendous blessing you're giving...and getting! I can't imagine how loved someone would feel when they receive a surprise basket of treats.
A teacher at my school did something similar, but all throughout the school year. He secretly bought people lunch, paid their 'snack' bills, left notes or treats in their mailboxes or on their desks. His little, secret kindnesses lifted everyone's spirits.
I have a friend who's attempted suicide twice since Thanksgiving and there just doesn't seem to be the right thing to say or do that will lift her spirits and help her see herself as a valuable person. A few surprise baskets here and there might be a small step in that direction.
Thanks for sharing such a thoughtful idea!
