My family has become quite interested in scrapbooking recently. I think I am going to start a recipe scrapbook for each of my sisters, nieces, daughter, & mom.
I'll include special recipes & photos that depict who the recipe belonged to or for what occasion the recipe was usually made.
I am getting ready to make recipe books this year also. I have most of the supplies and have been getting the recipes loaded into WORD along with were they came from. I am also making my Christmas cards this year. Trying to make so many a month so I will be done by October.
Have 4 presents ready to wrap and stick up. Have them logged in my 'book' in code. I have several ornies to paint and some to sew. My dd wants me to make her some aprons, shopping bag holders, & pot holders, plus a few other people too. So, I told them I'd put them on the list. Will probable crochet some stuff too. I do that when watching TV in the evenings.
Usually my Christmas is bought by Sept. or eariler. We went into debt 30 ago for Christmas and I said Not again! So, I make sure I have it bought and paid for / made all through the year. It sure makes Christmas and 12/31 a lot happier!
Sherrie, I like the idea of the recipe scrapbook. I am going to try and do something similar pulling together recipes from both our families. I have given some of the kids in the family little notebook cookbooks that can be added to. I did that on my computer with a simple 3 ring binder and sheet protectors. But nothing that is in any way a keepsake.
BBB - what kind of ornaments are you making? I have some that I need to get painted when I have some time.
Vivian - I am like you. I try to buy throughout the year so that I don't go nuts right before Christmas. I try to be finished by October. There is an ACC juried craft show in November and I usually save one or two things for that.
Take care.
Debbie

Debbie I am making Angels,Beaded Candy Canes, some Stained Glass Ornaments,Beaded Snowmen...as long as my hands hold out I hope to get more done and be able to send a couple different ones to each person in the Ornament Swap...
Vivian I try to have all my Christmas shopping done by the end of July...but this year I won't be buying to many gifts...money for the grown kids and gifts for the grandkids...
Sherrie...I was thinking about the Recipe Scrapbooks that you are planning on making for your sisters..and I have a small scrap book that is only 6X6 with the top loading pages and I thought printing out recipe cards on card stock with a nice border would look cute in the small scrap book...and then put Recipe Book across the front of the scrap book with the person's name...what do you think???...

Putting the recipes in a notebook w/ page protectors is a great idea! I have several recipe "books" I've made for myself that way. Never thought of doing it for a gift. Great idea! Ya know, you could also get a 13x11" sheet of white paper and collage family pix (use hair tape, comes off no damage) and copy @ Kinko's or etc. then cut out the pix you need for each recipe / page you want and have the best of both ideas. I'm doing this with my family history book, but it work with the recipes too. I have a neice that is sorta engaged ( wants to finish college first) and I could get started on the book now. All the others got was a recipe file filled w recipes, kitchen stuff and $. The cost would be minimum and I have all the scrapbooking stuff I'd need. Coolness!
BBB, Most of my gifts are made by me, but I also sell Avon and I do get stuff on the Demos that I can use for gifts too. I'd much rather make gifts than just buy or get an impersonal gift card. We still have to buy the stuff to make it with.........when its on sale!
Vivian...you and me both,I would rather make the gifts than buy them...One year I made afghans for all my kids, grandkids and in-laws,another year I painted sweatshirts and t-shirts for everyone...
That sounds like a great idea with the pictures for the recipes too...I was thinking of putting the recipe on one side of the card stock with a nice border and pasting the picture on the back of the recipe with all the nutritional information...will have to see how that would look first before doing a good copy of it...Thanks for the idea's...hugs

When I did the notebook cookbooks, my neice especially, was fairly young and I wanted to protect the recipes so I used the page protectors. I also wanted something that was big enough for her to maneuver and that anyone could add to without much difficulty.
Sounds like we are busy.
