I made this a long time ago, and had forgotten about it until I saw your question.
You can make a Christmas candle, I hope I can explain it well enough .....
You will need a Christmas card with a scene, small piece of styrofoam cut into a circle to go into the bottom of the can, a votive cup and candle, various trims (rick rack, glitter, sequins, tiny little plastic figurines, just to give you a few ideas, but the figurines depend on what the picture of your card has on it).
I spray painted my can white. About a half an inch from the botton, (this is for a large can) cut an opening approx 4 or so inches high, like a dome or cathedral shape. Cut the picture from your Christmas card, (I think mine had the picture of a manager, but you can use any one). and slide your card inside the can to the bottom. This is the background for your candle. Cut the piece of styrofoam and insert that all the way to the bottom and this hides the bottom edge of your card, you will glue any little figurines/animals on top of the styrofoam. I glued rickrack around the edge of the dome/cathedral shape I cut, plus around the edge of the plastic lid.
In the plastic lid, cut a hole so that your votive cup sits in the hole but doesn't fall through (when you light the candle, it shines down through, like with my card being a manger, I used some wisemen and glued onto my styrofoam and with the candle lit, it was shining down like the Star of Bethlehem).
Use other decorations as desired to decorate the outside. These are fairly inexpensive to make, especially if you use old Christmas cards.
I hope this makes sense.....have fun!
