Crafts for dads

Does anyone have any unusual ideas for Christmas gifts for dads and grandfathers? I'm tired of the same old change holders and handprint shirts!

Last year we made mugs...I got some plain mugs from wal mart ($.50 a piece)...some red, some green and some white...and I let the kids paint their own design on them with ceramic paint and sealed them (According to instructions). We personalized them with their name and Merry Christmas on them with the year (2003)...I then put in a packet of hot coco or tea (depending on the person). ANd they were a big hit!

This year, we are making small concrete hand prints...or designs for their gardens. Same concept...

Hope this works!

Janieb, I'm glad you started this thread. It's a great idea. hy didn't I think of it?

As I'm making almost all of the gifts this year, I too am looking for things suitable for the men.

Hopefully there will be lots of ideas for you (and me) to pick from. I have 4 men, all with different tastes and lifestyles. So one project probably wouldn't do for all.

Musicmom1, the mugs are a good idea, unfortunately my daughter and I did them 3 christmases ago.

Hi janieb! Crafts for the Men in our lives

Under the all occassion gift subforum, I asked this same question and I got some really neat ideas. Check out this thread. The one idea I especially liked was the CD coasters! Since cd's are so readily available and some are free, I thought this was a frugal idea and something my son could do. The other idea I liked was the bucket/container filled with their favorite things. Check it out. Good Luck.

I'm so glad this thread is open. I always run out of craft idead for dads. I have made liquor cakes for father's day. I had to send one to my dfil in NH. I made hima grand marnier cake and couldn't think of a way to ship it. So I bought tool box from the dollar store. It fit perfectly in there!

Girls....please keep the ideas coming.

I found and tried a wonderful recipe for a cake like fudgy bar cookie thingy. Everyone who tried it called it something different. But they all agreed it was very, very good.

It was so easy to make (and inexpensive). I will be making this for all the sweet toothers on my list.

I know it's not a huge gift, but it will fit perfectly in my time and budget constraints.

If anyone is interested, I'll post the recipe. This will be going to 3 of the 4 men on my list. Hey, it's a start.
