Planning a red,white & blue birthday party.
My son, who will be 5 in Oct., loves anything patriotic. Ive decided to throw him a red, white & blue party. I have the decorations under control, Im having crafts instead of games since it will only be him and his 2 cousins at the party. Im going to buy white pillow cases and let them paint and stamp stars, stripes or their handprints on them. For the other craft, Im going to cut out big stars from construction paper and let them cover them with glue and red, white & blue colored rice. Im making a flag cake.
Thats as far as Ive gotten. Im stumped for food ideas that are red, white and blue. I will be serving dinner but want to keep it simple for the kids--they are 6, 5 & 3. Jello is not a favorite of any of them, neither are strawberries & blueberries. Any ideas?
I wish that I could run across some of the red, white and blue tortilla chips that were around this year---maybe at Big Lots??
In the end if I dont come up with something, Im thinking of just buying small patriotic bags at the dollar store and serving french fries and nuggets in them. They would probably like them just as much! I would really like to be a little more creative though......
There's also an American Flag Cookie & of course the Flag Cake here http://www.thefamilycorner.com/famil..._dessert.shtml , again just substitute candy (M&M's, gumdrops, Skittles, etc) or gel for the fruits they don't like.
If anything you are serving needs butter parkay just came out with a squeeze butter that is blue. If you are topping anything with whipped topping how about adding red and blue food coloring red foods - apples, cherries, raspberries, red licorice. Here is an idea for a drink - make red and blue kool-aid, freeze in ice cube trays, and serve with sprite. Makes neat swirls as they melt

SOME LIKE IT HOT (1959)
Blues Clues is big all over... Walmart has Blues Clues Ice cream... make red & white cupcakes to go with the blue ice cream for a patriotic dessert.
I don't know if the kids would like them or not, mine love them, but red pickled eggs could be a "red" dish.
They have blues clues french fries out too.. I think ore ida carries them.
Hot dogs are an "all american" treat.. although not colored. Might want to do hotdogs with little flags in them and blue fries with red ketchup?
There's also blue raspberry applesauce in individual cups. Yummy and nutritious!!!
Don't forget food coloring.... use it in anything you can! We do this a lot for our "Green Eggs and Ham Day"... green everything. Yeah.. I know.. not so appealing to adults.. but you'd be amazed at what those kids will eat! LOL
hello.
a couple of quick things that come to mind are-
1. add a couple drops of food coloring to mashed potatoes to make blue-or to potato salad or coleslaw to make blue.
2. if you make homemade breads-maybe red or blue hamburger, hotdog, and loaf bread colored with food coloring.
serve with white cheese
3. bologna or lunchmeat could probably be tinted with food color and water.
4.mac-n-cheese probably could add a little blue or red to it.
5. ice cream-add blue to one container, red to another, and leave one white(vanilla)-refreeze and serve in scoops-1 red scoop,1 white scoop, and 1 blue scoop.
6. red pop
7. food coloring in fruit salad
8.blue mayo-red ketchup for condiments
9.blue frosted cake(or paint a flag on top)
10.plastic party ware -in red-white- blue (try partycity-cheap prices
11. paint flags on cheeks of kids with facepaint
hope some of these help!

hello again.
i thought they might enjoy making statue of liberty hats by taking construction paper-red,white, and blue of course-
and make a "bandana" and add triangle points in the 3 colors.
maybe looking at a pic of statue of liberty will help with proportions of everything.
good luck-hope this helps.

you might want to check better homes and gardens for ideas, or martha stewart.com, check the archive crafts, and ask martha in search, but there are several good sites, if you need more info, feel free to email me,akanita8524@yahoo.com. good luck! anita from wasilla, alaska
I'm really not sure where you would find them but, there are blue potatoes!! I sometimes see them at my local grocery store--maybe a fruit/vegi market??
If you are able to find them, I bet they would make neat mashed potatoes and maybe french fries too.

I just read this in a magazine last night, then saw this, how cool. If you make angel food cake, put half the batter in the pan, put a few drops of food color, swirl with a toothpick, pour the rest of the batter in the pan, add more foodcolor, then swirl again. When it's cut, you'll have the pretty colors. You could do blue and red, then your cake is white, so there you have it. Hope this helps. Also, you can now get Strawberry Cool Whip (which tastes divine!) and they might like it even if they don't like the actual berries and you could serve it with the cake. You might even add a few drops of food color to it to make it more red. I have never tried that, though, so you might want to try it before hand to see how it turns out! Hope this helps!
