Here's a fun theme for a kids birthday party that I attended as a child
I remember going to a birthday party that was a pirate theme.
There was a cake with a plastic pirate, ship, and treasure. I'm sure it was picked up at the local supermarket.
The party had typical games with a pirate ship pinata and such, but the game I remember the best was the treasure hunt.
The parents throwing the party had picked up half dollars (1 for each child) and buried (or hid) them in different parts of their back yard. Every child got a goodie bag that had a "treasure map" drawn out by the party throwers inside. The children all got to go and find their treasure with the map, and then kept the half dollar.
This is a great idea for small parties with 5 or 6 kids.
I intend to throw one similar when my son is old enough.
