Backyard Camping Party

Tony will be 10 in June. I was thinking of maybe a beach party, but a backyard camping party sounds fun too! I planned on getting a big tent anyway and our yard is awesome, surrounded by trees, we have a fire pit and place for a volleyball net. There's enough room to play catch or toss a football around or throw a frisbee.

I was thinking of roasting hot dogs on sticks and of course marshmallows, ghost stories, and maybe some outdoor games. Any other ideas??

Fun and Games

Have a Pinata at the party, Play flashlight tag. Have a scavenger hunt using the flashlights at night.

Have name tags with fun names like Pine Tree Trail, Rabbit Run, Forrest Freeway.

Catch fireflies (lightening bugs)

Balloon Shaving Games, three legged races.

Tie Dye Shirts

Give out Glow Sticks... it is good for games and also lets the kids know where everyone is in the dark.

Have them do a craft using twigs or popcile sticks (like a picture frame).

Favors

Flashlights, bandanas, keychains, Granola Bars, bandages, bug spray, glow in dark stuff

Food

Cake: cake with green frosting (the grass) tootsie rolls can be arranged to look like campfire wood, and a lit candles stuck down into the cake will make it appear as though the fire is burning. Have a piece of carboard in the shape of a pyramid for the tent.

Have a Dirt Cake (I have a recipe for this one)

Serve some trail mix (or a mix of popcorn, pretzels, chips and nuts all mixed together).

Have Mess kits made up for each chils (two plastic bowls tied together with string. Inside is a fork and spoon, napkin and small cup)

Serve Pigs in a Blanket and beans

Invitations

If you can get pictures of the kids you are inviting...use a rubber stamp that looks like a wooden twig frame (or draw one) and having the kids picture in there with a caption inviting each child to the party.

Have an invitation shaped like tents that opened for the information and directions to the party. We asked each guest to bring a sleeping bag and pillowif they have one.

Should I find more stuff
