Budgets for Christmas Gifts?

How do you put money aside each year for Christmas gifts? Since it will soon be time to think about Christmas 2012 budgets I thought maybe someone had a good method they would like to share with others! What's yours that especially keeps the spending in line with what you can afford?

I collect change and cash it in once or twice over the course of the year. I put this money aside in my "secret hiding place" and don't touch it until it's time to shop. For the first time this year, I am doing all of my shopping with cash. When the cash runs out, the shopping is done. This definitely curbs the temptation of throwing one more thing in the cart. I haven't used credit cards for many years, but even using a debit card caused me to go over budget.

I also pick up stocking stuffers over the course of the year. When I find stuff for a really good price - or free - I get it and put it in my Christmas box with a list of everything I have bought so far so I don't end up getting duplicates.

The adults don't exchange gifts any more in my family as we just can't afford it. We do buy for the kids $25 limit and they give a gift to the Grandparents, Aunts & Uncles.

I pick up things all year that will make a good gift for someone individually or bundled together with other items. I got 2 grill utensil sets in September clearanced to $5, 6 Watkins lotions & 3 hand soaps for free, boxed freshwater pearl earrings for $5, 9 Air Wick candles for $1.56.
