Review: THE CONVENT COOK: Divine Meals for Families Large & Small
by Maria Tisdall
publisher: Ten Speed Press, 2002
I first got interested in this book when my SIL said that a friend of hers was having her cookbook published! I found out the title and got the book. If you like to read a good cookbook then this book is for you. The author divides the book up by seasons and months, emphasizing holidays and seasonal fresh ingredients. At the beginning of each chaper and sometimes each recipe there is a story. The author is a mom who is the cook in a convent, and she tells tales about her family and about the Sisters among whom she works. She's as good a writer as she is a recipe-creator.
The recipe for "The Best Barbecued Chicken" alone was worth the purchase price! In summer my family enjoys that dish at least once a week.
