cooking equals love!!!

I like to cook because for me, it is one of the biggest ways I show love! I love cooking dinners for my husband. He is always so appreciative whether it is a big meal or just sandwiches and soup! I enjoy trying new recipes and do often.
Entertaining family and friends brings me joy as well...everything from tea parties for 2 to family reunions for 40!
I would say our kitchen table is the heart of my family.
We share meals...play dominoes, read the paper, write letters, share feelings and ideas!!!
It is, no doubt, easier for us, since we are a family of 2, but having dinner together every night is very important to me. Most days Mark comes home for lunch so we have that meal together too. We are both on our own for breakfast.
We don't need to look outside ourselves and our homes to find a life. That is a lesson I am still learning. We can make a life right around our own table.
peace,train

Isn't it great having a hubby who comes home for lunch? Mine did that for the first couple of years I was a SAHM but our area has grown so much that it was taking most of his time to get here and back so now we go to him. Not quite the same but at least we get to see him.

Your mom's BD dinner sounded delicious! I'm sure you had a great time and that she appreciated it.

I agree with you Donna. Cooking for those you love is very enjoyable when it is appreciated.

However, it seems to become a chore when loved ones complain when they get to the table or when they come into the kitchen when you are preparing a meal and they see what's cooking!

I agree! Food does make people happy. I just wish I got a few more thank you's! I have to beg for compliments sometimes, well, most of the time! Ah well, I know they love me!

I was doing good on my diet before Mom came. Now I am cooking things I know she likes like pasta & potatoes. She tasted for the first time papaya fruit which is one of my favorites. It is also very healthy for digestion especially in older people. I did have my own tree but last year a frost killed it. They are expensive but worth it. Will try planting some seeds again in a flower pot. Once they start growing they really take off. Tonight we had homemade whole wheat bread toasted with a slice of soy cheddar cheese for a night time snack. It was better than a piece of cake.

I do enjoy cooking since Mom & Dh appreciate it.

I have been out of work for three weeks now............and have SO enjoyed having the time to try new recipies, eat a little healthier AND being able to eat meals together!! (We ate seperately because I worked the graveyard shift.)

My DH has been so appreciative and greatful that I have been home. My parents and 85 year old neighbor lady have been enjoying the meals I have made for them..and the makes ME feel good!!!

I don't know, Sueanne........... As someone who has a huge sweetooth you would have to sell me on soy cheese being as good as a pice of cake!!!! LOL!!!

hugs,train

Christmas time especially gave me these good feelings!
I made a huge feast for Christmas Eve and Day! At first I thought, no it's just four of us, I really shouldn't make that much food.
And then I thought, well, why not, just because we are a small family doesn't mean we don't get a Christmas feast too! And so I made a feast and it was So yummy!!!!

I still cook for my neighbor Dorothy three nights a week and still enjoy cooking for Mark. As always, It can be a steak dinner or soup and he is always so appreciative!
Sunday dinners for mom and dad always make me feel good, too!

Does cooking for others make you feel good?

hugs, train

I love cooking for others. I know that I love the feedback. I always do my roast in the crockpot, and last night I thought I would do it in the oven like my grandmother used to do, well it came out pretty dry and I was so disappointed that I ruined a good cut of meat. My husband kept commenting on how good it was, but I know better. He just had a big appetite. Anyways, I love to cook for those I love. I am obsessed with collecting recipes and "Gooseberry Patch" cookbooks. It makes me feel good to make others happy with my cooking. Baking is another story.
