edible play dough

I want to find an edible dough recipe that I can sculpt into a character for my daughter's birthday cake. I have found that fondant really doesn't sculpt that well with detail. I would like to be able to use something that will harden & not spoil. I found the edible play dough recipes & was wondering how they would work. I made a sculpture of a submarine out of rice krispees & marshmallows & covered it with fondant for my other daughter's birthday. She wanted a pschodelic yellow submarine cake. I made it & everyone loved it. Now I will have to "wow" my other daughter. She wants me to sculpt Chip & Dale. I am an artist and am able to do it with clay but I want it to be edible. Any ideas???

Interesting idea. I never thought of using edible play dough to decorate a cake.

We have several recipes here. I'm not sure how good any of them would taste, although they are fine to eat. Guess you would have to do a taste-test beforehand, as well as to make sure the texture is right for your project.
