I've been making things like bugers and pasta salad. I make extra pasta salad and then add cooked chicken to it for tomorrow nights dinner, add some fruit and rolls and it done.

I've been cooking dried beans in the crockpot. I soak them overnight, pop them in the crockpot, and set it outside on the patio. I cook at least 2 pounds at a time, and if we're not ready for them, they go in the freezer for later meals. Easy and thrifty.

What a good idea! I am still new to beans, so how exactly do you do it? Do you use water, broth or ...? How long do you cook them for? I am full of questions! lol

I always liked Simple and Delicious mag too.

I also keep cooked chicken in the freezer and cooked ham. Can add it to salads or casseroles. Or add ham to scalloped potatos in the crockpot. I love using the crockpot. Sometimes we just use it for sandwichs. Sometimes add ham to an omelet.

Cooked, You need to first soak the dry beans either overnight or you can do the quick soak which is to bring them to a boil, then turn off and let soak for 1-2 hrs. Drain then bring to a boil and cook on low for several hours until tender. They are then ready to use in any recipe.

I am a dried bean person from way back! Now you have be craving pinto beans and cornbread. The crockpot is not only lazy, but in my place it is also a great way to cook without heating up the place.

I soak my pinto beans in water, after washing them, over night. In the early morning, I rinse them out and put them in the crockpot. I add salt pork or ham hocks and barely cover them with water and cook on low all day. I also add chili powder to mine as well as a little garlic powder. I like mine mushy, so I really cook the heck out of them. Before dinner, I like to add the hot rotel tomatoes, but you could add regular stewed tomatoes if you aren't into spicy. Shortly before they are done, I add salt.

I soak the beans overnight also. I will usually make bean soup with a ham bone.
I also like baked beans.

New England Baked Beans

1 lb. navy beans
1/2 c chopped onion
1 1/2 c water
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c maple syrup
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsps salt
1/4 lb bacon, diced
Wash beans. Soak overnight in water to cover. Drain. Place in large saucepan or Dutch oven. Cover with 3 times their volume with unsalted water and bring to a boil. Boil 10 min, reduce heat, cover and simmer 1-1/2hr. or until beans are tender.
Drain and put beans in crockpot. Add all remainin ingredients along with the water, mix well. Cover and cook on low 7-9 hrs, or on high 3-4 hours, stirring occassionally.

I tried doing the beans by boiling and then baking forever. They were good but it was an all day project. I'm trying your recipe next Sharon
