Peanut allergies - what measures do you have to take in cooking to deal with it?

Do you have family members that have peanut allergies? What measures do you have to go to go to deal with it as far as cooking is concerned? How do you handle foods in school? Eating out in restaurants?

Oh my gosh! Where do you want me to start?

We have a completly peanut, tree nut, seed house. Things are much easier since we bought Stuie. Read the labels twice then have Stuie check the item out. As for school they way they handled it was one of the reasons my children are homeschooled. I will not take chances with my child's life. Eating out now is funny. Stuie checks the table, the chairs, the salt and pepper, the napkin holder, under the table. When he gives the okay then we sit down. It is so very hard to eat out. Fast food places are terrible. Dd is okay with eating french fries at Runza. The pricier resterauts are better. Ruby Tuesday was WONDERFUL to us. Always call ahead and check out the menu online.

I would strongly suggest joining a online support group.

My sister in law is allergic to ALL nuts except for peanuts - We are all so careful with reading the labels whenever she comes over - We also have to be careful not to use cake mixes because they are made in same places as mixes with nuts - Her husband also needs to be careful what he eats because if he kisses her after he eats something, it affects her!!! We are all just learning how to cook different when she's around.

Kim, FYI, it isn't just kissing that can cause problems after a spouse has eaten something thier spouse is allergic too. The allergen is carried in all body fluids. Sorry if that is TMI.
