Is there a difference between a dining table and a kitchen table?
We've only ever had a dining table for 6, it's not in the kitchen and not in a dining room but a space between there and the family room, we have an open plan house.

When my chn were babies our kitchen table was a 5' x 3' laminex table which was also the bath table and change table. It was a perfect height for me. It was alkso my sewing table, craft table, cooking table. dh also made 3 different sized tops for it, two oval ones and 1 obling one, so we could make it bigger if needed. It was a very busy, versatile table and served us well.

Skip to today, almost 30 yrs later.
Now our kitchen table is a heavy dark-stained timber one, seats 6, but can extend to seat 10 - 12 depending on which extra chairs I use. It is, as we speak, an office table, as I have been helping dh do our long overdue tax and all the papers etc have found their way there. I have actually spent the last 1 1/2 hrs filing, refiling, sorting, throwing out etc in the filing cabinet so as I can clear the table off.

I also have a 'formal' dining room table, also dark timber, 5' x 5' square one with 8 chairs. It is fairly new. I really like sitting at a square table.

maybe we should define kitchen table as the place we all get together and "kitch!"

I agree! My dining room table is only slightly larger than my main floor kitchen table, but generally there are only 2 of us at any given time.

Hello..
Our table was bought like 3 years ago. I love it but I must say my family has been hard on the chairs...

Ewww Ellen, I thought only my guys butchered on the dining room table Nice to know I'm not the lone ranger.

I craft there sometimes, and we have dinner there as a family. It's been nice because lately it seems like we have been there more and more often as a family!

At Thanksgiving and Christmas I use my table alot....baking , parties and special dinners!
