How do I get rid of sweater pilling?

I have a couple of sweaters that have started pilling. You know, the little "balls" of sweater fuzz.

I really like these sweaters because they are thin ones and they're fairly new.

How do I get rid of the pills that are there?
How do I stop them from coming in the first place or coming back?

Hi Donna, They make a "clothes shaver" you can pick one up at Walmart(under $5) but what I do, is use a regular disposable razer and very lightly, and I stress the "lightly" lol, shave the little "pills" off the sweater, I get them on sweatshirts too and I hate them, I have found the razor works better than the clothes shaver! Hugs

I remember reading somewhere that washing the sweaters inside out helps with pilling. I've always shaved them off as well.

Donna, I have read that washing sweaters inside out and laying flat to dry instead of using the dryer does help prevent pilling.

Thanks...I usually don't wash thing inside out but I'll try that with the sweaters. As for the dryer, I usually don't to avoid shrinking them.
