Olympics 2008

The countdown I have for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing is 125 days to go, Sept 6-17 .

Is anyone up to date on how their countries athletes are going in their quest for their sport?
Do you have a favourite sport you just have to watch when the Olympics are on?
Do you know anyone that has qualified to go?
Is there a local in your town that will be going?
Do you even follow the Olympics sports or not really worried about how they go?

We have a few athletes in our area that are on the tryout circuit for their sport, some seem pretty young but are just so good and put in so much effort.

Personally I think that anyone who even qualifies to go to an Olympic games is wonderful at their sport, let alone those who have competed in 3 or even 4, which as we all know are 4 years apart so that is a lot of sport for a lot of years!

Kathy my kids love the Olympics...we have been keeping a close eye with all the upraor in China right now we ar worried about the athletes safety.

It is always a big unveiling here in Canada with the uniforms too......Companies put bids in to make the uniforms. We are hoping to go to Vancouver in 2010 for the Olympics.

Hugs Debbie

Is that Olympics Deb or the Commonwealth Games in Vancouver? It would be great for you to go, but trying to decide which sports to see wow!

I think the torch actually found a couple of countries to go through without to much fuss in Africa, it will be coming to Canberra here our Au capital.

Kathy it is the winter olympics....whish it was the summer!!! We are hoping to see a curling match and a hockey game...tickets go on sale in Oct and we have to apply so not sure if we can even get those. We will stay on the Island with my parents and travel over on the ferry each day. Hotels are very short supply with the athletes taking up most rooms.

Hugs debbie

I love the Olympics and it's always fun for our family to watch them on TV.

In summer we like the track & field, diving and gymnastics events.

But this year I have some misgivings about the Olympics. With the human-rights violations ongoing in China, I am not sure it's a good idea for our country to participate. I feel bad for the athletes in this case but I think there is a greater good at stake.

Below is a political cartoon on the subject drawn by Dan Lacey and hosted at his Faithmouse cartoon site.

In the news....
16km run for the Olympic torch is fenced off so that no one can get close. Our Prime Minister didn't want the Chinese security we would provide our own but the Chinese govt won't let us.

I don't agree with Politics in with sports as the athletes have worked so hard to get where they are in the athletic world it's unfair on them but he politics will stick it's nose in all sorts of things whetehr it belongs there or not.

Go sport!
