Making the Children Comfotable

Do you ever take long drive and the kids just can't get comfortable? Are they always complaining?

What do you do to make your travel time more comfortable for the children and yourself?

~~~~~~~~
When we take long drives in the car it is not really a problem because the car is comfy but I do bring a a pillow and blanket. This way my child can lay down and nap.
Now if we go out in the DH truck, then the back seat os not so nice. I will strill bring a pillow but I do not know what else to do except talk my DH into taking the dang car.
He just got his truck and always wants to take it everywhere, how can I say no... guess what I am going to start saying NO!. But that is only if it is for a long drive, otherwise we don't mind it.
I'm so glad you brought this up!
Dh may be driving to SC next week, and if he is, we may go with him.
My kids are sort of used to traveling, but now that they're getting bigger, there's less room. I hear lots of "his feet are in my space!" and "can't he lean the other way to sleep?"
I'm anxious to hear how others solve this problem. (Duct tape is illegal, ya know!)
As for the back seat of the truck - has your dd actually said that it's uncomfortable? Usually children can sleep anywhere and in any position. If she's not complaining, don't mention it. Just bring another pillow or two!
The only luck we had with a 1yr. old is ,make sure their belly are pretty well full, so they sleep must of the way, another thing is we bought a toy at the toy store, its a soft toy, a steering wheel that has a horn, some keys on it, just like daddy or mommy has when they drive, they will love it.
A really good website to check out is www.momsminivan.com
they have all kinds of car games (100's) and they have them for most all age groups. one good thing I used off there that worked for my 12,10,4,& 3yo was tinfoil shaping, buy a cheap roll of
tinfoil give them each a large peice and see what they can make.
check it out!
For younger kids the magna-doodle is a great thing to keep in the car. I always have homeade Chex mix and a bottle of water from home for a cheap and great trip.
What great ideas!
I've heard of that Mom's Minivan site, but haven't had a chance to check it out yet.
One thing we used to do, when we traveled more, and the trip was 8 to 12 hours: drive at night. We usually rent a van for traveling, so we'd pick it up on Thursday. I'd spend the day washing clothes and packing, and then we'd pack the van with as much as possible that night. Friday, my dh would take off of work an hour early and come home to take a nap. I'd give the kids a late snack, and then we'd get in the van and leave at 6pm. We'd stop at a McD's with a play place for supper, let the kids eat and then tire themselves out, and then back in the van for the long trip. Dh would drive until about 4 or 5 am, and then I'd take over. He'd then sleep the rest of the way, and nap again upon reaching our destination. Works well for us.
