Misc. Ideas
* Keep a bag full of $ store toys for those "Mom Im bored" times
* Have the kids bring their favorite blanket, stuffed animal, cars, barbies or toys--these can really help settle weary travelers
* Provide a blanket and pillow for each child
* Have the child remove his shoes to relax for a long journey
* Have a supply of books and music ( tapes or CDs) available. Some parents believe that a VCR is helpful too.
* Make sure to have a first-aid kit in the car
We travel a lot with our 2 boys now 10 and 6, and some of the best things we have found are these:
*ALWAYS have wet wipes and paper towels
*Game Boy, plenty of batteries and rented games (we like to go to the place that rents 5 games for 5 days for 5 bucks.)
* Walkman with headphones and plenty of music tapes/cd's (and again batteries)
* lots of snacks and drinks
*dramamine (you never know who will need it)
*But the best thing we just discovered last summer... we were driving in a van with a CD player and we checked out a book on cd from the library. Everyone was interested in the story and it made the trip go SO FAST! Next time we will check out SEVERAL books on CD! You can get them on tape also.
*Also... ALWAYS have an extra set of clothes handy for the kids, even an older one can have an accident or spill something, and plastic grocery bags are always handy for wet clothes, trash, etc.
