Hee, hee, hee! I forgot about all of these "old wives tales" until I saw this thread! I also was told the one about the cat sucking the air from a newborn (my mother-in-law who has a PhD told me that one!!! She wanted me to get rid of our cat!). I also had lots of heartburn, so everyone told me that I would have "hairy" children as well -- at least that tale came true!

Did anyone ever try tying their wedding ring to a string and dangling it over their pregnant belly? Supposedly, if it swings in a circular motion you will have a girl. If it swings back and forth, it will be a boy. Very scientific!!

When I was pregnant with ds I was huge, all in front. Everyone said you are having another girl. When the doctor said its a boy, I said Are you sure? She laughed, and said yes.

OMG!!! If I had listened to all the wives tales when I was pregnant the first time..I probably would not have had anymore....first off, I have NEVER EVER in my life had heartburn...and two out of 4 kids had a whole bunch of hair..the other two, bald...I was told not to do this and not to do that when I was preg with 1st one and when I was preg with him...I rode a horse bare back at 7 months along...he is 45 yrs old and has an IQ of 160! With 1st 3 kids, I never went to the doctor until I was 7-8 months pregnant...never took vitamins or such...they were all big babies, and healthy...1st one weighed in at 9.6, 2nd-7.8, 3rd-8.1 and the last one I went to Doc from day one and she weighed 7.3...and wound up being sickly child to where I almost lost her at 18 mos old...she is healthy now...so wives tales....remember the words "don't believe everything you hear or read, only believe the things u see with your eyes"

Glad somebody re-surfaced this thread it is a good one. We lost my beloved g-dad when I was 5 months with my 1st child, and my great aunt had me crying cause she did not want me to go to the viewing or the funeral. Why because it would "mark" my unborn child. My hubby heard me and came in to check on me and I told him why I was crying etc. He just looked at my g-aunt and told her I had come up from FL to SC and I was going to all of it. That God had already formed our baby and nothing like that would happen. Obviously he was right she was perfect and a little beauty (okay mom bragging here)
Also was told with my last one that it would be a boy because I was carrying so high well that turned out to be true. No heartburn with either pregnancy..
Anyone out there pg enjoy your time and listen to your DR not others, most mean well but every pg is diff.

No wives tale story but...
Two days before my grandmother passed away she told my little sister ( 9 at the time) there is your next brother in law. My boyfriend (now dh) and I figured she knew I was pregnant. (we were the only ones who knew at that time) There was no way anyone could have kept me away from her viewing and funeral.

Nothing would have kept me away either. He was soooo happy that I was having his first great grand but unfortunately he never got to see her.
