Does your school-aged child spend more time on studying/homework or watching TV?

I heard an interesting and shocking fact the other day while watching CNN......

Students today spend 5x more time in front of the TV each week than they spend on studying or doing homework.

Does your household fit into this catagory?

Does your child spend more time doing homework/studying or watching TV?

We have had a rule with Joshua since he started kindergarten. He gets a 30 minute break when he gets home, then he needs to shut everything off and work on homework.

Hi everyone. My husband & I always have the TV channels locked. If we didn't then the kids would watch TV 24/7 as I'm sure every kid would if given a chance.
When all the chores/homework are done then I check TV to see what is on for them to watch. Anymore there is'nt anything suitable for kids to watch.
They don't watch a lot of tv. They read or are in their rooms listening to their music.
Take care everyone.
Sandy

Usually most of the homework is done at school, but as soon as my son walks in the door he concentrates on his homework. I don't have any trouble with him wanting TV, as like stellajean he was not allowed any TV/games/music etc. since kindergarten until after school work was done, and knows the rule, LOL!

I admitt my younger kids watch too much tv but when they do it's mostly disney and there is some educational things on there. More importantly I have a rule that as soon as my kids get home from school the homework is done 1st! No tv until then. My kids know and understand this rule. It's routine for them. I have a friend that thinks it's too much and they've been in school all day and need a break but I want it done while it's fresh in their minds. Also, we do it while I cook dinner and then we aren't doing it late when they are tired. It's nice because then we have the rest of the night together and they get tired so I can send them to bed and have the tv. This does keep them away from tv some.
