HI. My son is in fourth grade this year & they are doing science projects. Last year he compared the growth of grass seed watering with spring, tap & bottle water. He is wanting to grow something again this year. He decided on testing the myth of freezing seeds vs. soaking. We got lima beans because I heard they grew the fastest. Well, it is day 8 and no sign- He is to turn in his project the 13th of Feb. Help! Any clues???
No help as to why they haven't grown unless to much water or not enough sun. Can he dig a seed up to see if it is sprouting at all and if it is to replant it. If he finds they are mush or not doing anything maybe he can switch to another project or retry another seed one.

Thanks for the suggestion! Oh Happy Day! He dug up the seeds & they are sprouting, except for the one soaked in coke, (ha!) there is no sign of any seed. I thought we would loosen the soil some & see how if it shows itself more before replanting. So far, water soaking & plain sprouting looks the same- frozen in 1st place, coke nowhere...
That project sounds neat. Sometimes I think the project is as much for the parents as the student. Ha! Any suggestions on decorating the board? He is using a title "How does your lima bean grow?" We never did these types of projects in school. I do remember doing experiments in the classroom though. Fortunately, nothing blew up! he he!
- frozen still ahead followed by plain, water & coke not seen yet.
If you can take pictures of the limas in different stages of growth and you can label day 9, day 10 etc.
You can also decorated it with the package the seeds came in or other packs of lima bean seeds or even dried lima beans.
On ds's board we had to put the hypothesis, what he thought would happen, how the experiment was conducted, then the results and if he was right or wrong. This along with the pictures put on different colored paper cutout different ways was the extent of his. He did put little designs around it too.
