Lightbulb Need ideas for old fashioned get together

We are having a old fashioned get together at church, it will be on a 35 acre field so we have lots of room. We are having a hay ride and bobbing for apples. There will be a large bon fire for roasting hotdogs and marshmellows, the drinks will be hot apple cider, cold cider, iced tea and coffee. No sodas.

This is all I have so far. I am in charge of getting this planned and I need more ideas. There will be alot of kids there, but I also want to keep the adults entertained too. Has to be old fashioned.

What have you all done at fall get togethers before? I know there's got to be some great suggestions out there.

How about some games--potato sack races, a relay race with participants carrying an egg on a spoon, etc. How about kickball? All ages could play kickball.

You could have a contest for pumplin carving and/or pumkin painting.

How about a square dance?

Also, story hour or singing around the campfire.

Thanks for the ideas, I like the egg and spoon idea and what do you think of a pumpkin pie eating contest....

I was thinking maybe a scavenger hunt, but I really dont know where to start with that. It would have to be in teams because I'm figureing about 200 people at least.

How about boxed lunches... have the women or the girls make individual lunches or dinners and have the guys or vice verca bid on the lunches... raise a little money to pay for the rest of the festivities... someone has to pay for that tea and cider.

Post Drinks

HI...You mentioned no soda, but the first thing that came to my mind was homemade rootbeer, or sasparilla. Both drinks have been around for awhile. There are quite a few recipes on the web, but I got one from www.allrecipes.com last summer when I made a batch for a family get together. Just a thought BTW Your party sounds like it will be a blast..Have a great time!!!

I'm not sure when you are having your party, but we always made home-made ice cream that everyone took turns cranking. You could make pumpkin ice cream. I also remember having 3 legged races, where you tie two people's leg together.

What about a log sawing and splitting contest for the men!
The split wood can be used for the campfire!

How about pumkin rolling. Have a race to see who can get it to the finish line first with their feet. Of course, you can't use the huge pumpkins, but a small to small medium would work, Because of the uneveniness, it could be a lot of fun.
Dress the scarecrow. Have one started at the end of the line and have relay teams dress them.
Chili and barbeques are good for eating on a cool day.
Sounds like a good time! Have fun.
